Sudoku Companion... What is Sudoku? It is a brainteaser coming from Japan, very popular in many countries around the world. There are scientific researches describing the mathematics behind Sudoku, and many teachers recommend it as improving logical thinking, but foremost it is a very enjoyable and intelligent game.
There is only one very simple rule: Fill in the grid so that every column, every row and each of the nine 3 x 3 boxes contains all digits from 1 through 9. Sounds easy? Try it out!
The aim of Sudoku Companion is to make solving Sudoku puzzles more convenient. It is very Mac-like and it has all necessary and expected features: multiple undos, notes in each cell, every move is validated, you can save and load a puzzle or print it out and much, much more. Sudoku Companion has also some "cheating" options built in but be careful and use them wisely. They can change simple puzzles into boring ones but at the same time they can help you to concentrate on the strategy when you are solving really difficult Sudokus.
Sudoku Companion won’t solve anything for you, that would ruin all the fun, but it will allow you to enjoy solving Sudokus on your Mac without paper, pencil and bottles of Tipp-Ex.
IMPISH My favorite of the Sudoku software. The boards are nice and big. It has features that take care of the busywork but not those that solve the puzzle for you (as Sudoku Susser does.... where's the fun in that?). Also, the developer is open and responsive to suggestions, as this release implemented an idea I sent him a few weeks ago. If you love the challenge of Sudoku, this is the application for you. (Version 1.4.4)
ANONYMOUS While I don't agree with it's Tiger-only policy (I get the feeling that it's just because he wanted to use the "unified toolbar" look, a shame if I've ever seen one), I do agree with it's awesomeness policy. I'd like to see the notes not wrap though. And the window has extra space at the bottom when you don't have the timer visible. The options in the preferences should really be settings of each puzzle, too. Meh. It's rad. (Version 1.3)
ANONYMOUS There are other Sudokus out there that run on Jaguar, Panther, Tiger... Shouldn't be much effort with Xcode to build a forward compatible version, and there shouldn't be anything in the game that prevents backward compatibility either. (Version 1.1)
ANONYMOUS 10 out of 10 for providing an in-demand program, but 0 out of 10 for providing compatability - I only recently arrived at OS X (Panther) and am a long way from being in a position to upgrade further. It is very suprising to find requirements of .4 already! (Version 1.0.1)
