DESCRIPTION

pearLyrics... Ever wanted to dive into the world of those incredibly beautiful lyrics of the song currently playing in iTunes? pearLyrics gives you just that. It looks up song lyrics on the web as you play songs in iTunes. Sure enough, you can also search for lyrics without playing the song, just enter artist and song title manually. pearLyrics then consults up to ten different servers to do its best and find the lyrics you are looking for. And best of all, you can also tell it to populate the lyrics inside your iTunes Library. Heck, it can even find guitar chords at times. With the standalone app you can also pre-fetch lyrics for whole iTunes playlists so you have them ready when you need them. Sure, it might not find everything, but it does find a lot.

pearLyrics is available as a standalone application for those still preferring Panther as well as a Dashboard widget for Tiger (combined download).

HILLERICA  I downloaded pearlyrics and tried to run several songs through it both using itunes and manually putting it in and it always came back "no lyrics found" these were not obscure songs. Does anyone have any suggestions. I have the latest version of itunes and of pearlyrics.   (Version 0.6.3)

KEDOS  I have 3,999 songs with lyrics in my library, the vast majority thanks to pearlyrics. However, I have 2,420 songs with NO lyrics. A lot of them are foreign songs, which pearLyrics usually doesn't find. A lot are instrumentals, which have no lyrics anyway.

If pearLyrics could search lyricwiki, I think it would have better results. And I really wish it could find lyrics for foreign songs.

Why isn't there a program that goes through your whole library automatically and finds imports all the lyrics for you? If anyone knows of one, tell me.

I like pearLyrics a lot. It's lightweight and does a decent job, but there's still room for improvement.   (Version 0.6.3)

BOBZOZUS  I am most pleased with this app. Thank you!

I must say, this is the first app that seems to be LoveLorn Ware. How cool- and romantic. Hope you get your girl, dude!

Now, why I like PearLyric. Let me count the ways.

Oh, before I get into that- why the need for a Lyric Manager in the first place. If you have a CD collection, or do not use ITunes to obtain your music- then you need a Lyric manager to important Lyrics into your ITunes Data Base. PearLyric happens to do this better than any other program I know.

First, PearLyric has a function where you can ask it to search for the Lyrics of all the songs in a particular playlist. Nice.

However, where it really shines is in it's implementation of a dashboard widget. First, for each song that ITune plays- it displays the full Lyrics in dashboard for easy reference.

Most importantly, the PeaLyrics widget not only monitors your ITunes play and Displays Lyrics- but it finds them automatically, too. And, PearLyrics is smart. It only searches for Lyrics not already in your ITunes data base. And, upon finding said missing Lyrics, it automatically inserts them into ITunes! Excellent. And, PearLyrics is fast as well as smart (just like I like my woman- oh, oh.. sorry for the sexist remark- ladies). Anyway, with my broadband connection- it finds Lyrics in about 10 s. or less.

About 90% to 95% of the time it finds Lyrics for the song- at least in the Genres I have been interested in: Blues, Rock, Alternative, Modern, Grunge, Southern & Classic Rock. You get the idea. Fairly popular and recent stuff.

For those 5 to 10% of the time when it can't find Lyrics- PearLyrics is still extremely helpful even when it fails you. With a click of the button-it sends you to a Google search using your favorite browser. Although you get spoiled in that 90-95% of the time when PearLyrics automatically finds & inserts lyrics into Itunes- the manual search is not bad. 95% of the time I can find, copy, and paste the Lyrics into Itunes- within a minute. I just like the fast, smart, and automatic part as mentioned above.

So, to recap. PearLyrics displays your Lyrics in Dashboard. Can search for Lyrics of all your songs in a playlist in a single bound. It automatically searches, finds, and inserts the lyrics into ITunes about 95% of the time. It's just that good!!

To be complete, since I've meandered on this long (and, you are still reading ;). Although I consider PearLyrics to be the most indispensable totally free app on my system- I should mention the not quite so free DonationWare FindYourLyric. FindYourLyric does have significant search advantages if you like to search through your lyrics for that all too significant prose. In that aspect, it beats PearLyric- as well as in the capability to save your Lyrics in RTF format. However, PearLyric is absolutely the best for automating the display, acquisition, and insertion of ITunes Lyrics. At least, it has been responsible for all of the Lyrics being attached to my 1,522 song ITunes library. I couldn't be happier. Great stuff, that PearLyric!!  (Version 0.6.3)
