DESCRIPTION
MailBackup X is the program which keeps the mail of Entourage in every folder. A file to keep can choose 1 file 1 folder or 1 file 1 message in Preference menu. Be careful of a file to keep in case as 1 file 1 folder because it is overwritten. It isn't overwritten except for that.

Backup process is executed when a preservation point folder is set up and it clicks on the preservation button. It is only a chosen folder that though is kept, all folders are made by the folder in a place of preservation.

CHRIS H  Can I just clarify what this application does?

Does it changes the 'one giant database' that Entourage uses into several thousand folders?

Is the advantage of this is Time Machine will only update actual changes, instead of the entire 4GB database every hour? Is this correct?

    Thanks in advance.

ANONYMOUS  In light of the fact this tool backs up Entourage data, rather than Mail data, wouldn't it be better to use the name "EntourageBackup" rather than "MailBackup"? Especially as Mail is the mail package of choice to which all Mac users have access, and Entourage only a grudingly used expensive necessity for some who have to work in a Microsoft environment?

MINOTAUR  Entourage is by far a superior mail client and PIM when compared to Mail.

I don't "begrudingly" use Entourage. I begrudingly use Mail occassionally.

I agree, this ap would be more appropriately named EntourageBackup or similar - if not infringing on MS trademarks.

JIMW  I agree with you. While earlier versions had some desired features that Mail did not, the latest version is bloated with 'features' that may not be wanted, unstable, and missing desirable features, that were present in earlier versions. That is why I have switched back to Mail even though I own Entourage.

Additionally I have found an undocumented feature in Mail that is not present in Entourage. When Time Machine backs up Entourage, it backs up the entire database each time with all the mail buried in the database that is backed up. When Time Machine backs up Mail it backs it up logically as separate mail messages, even it it is backing up the entire database each. This means that each mail message is searchable in Time Machine and can be retrieved as such. This is a valuable tool in a situation where you have deleted a message but find out later you need it. Simply enter the approximate title or sender of the message into Time Machine and retrieve the deleted message. While this product might be helpful in this regard for Entourage, it is probably not as convenient, and given Entourage's other issues, especially it's printing capability for its Calendar, I will continue to use Mail and ICal thank you.
