MUSI I needed to finally buy an app to catalog my stock photos, clip art, and job graphics. I had the free iView Media 1.0 that came with my Mac, but because I didn't want to upgrade it (due to cost and the fact it is now MS) I demoed all the contenders listed on MacUpdate. I narrowed it down to Mediaboard One and QPict, which I then put head to head. I started with QPict which had various crashes. I did like a couple things about it so I attempted again. I soon realized it really didn't have the flow and organization that I wanted, as it automatically listed it's own interpretation of so many folders and categories which became a mess, and indecipherable from my real organized folders. But I gave QPict one last shot and imported my entire library into it, which took an extremely long time (from morning to night). At the very end, when it was doing its final indexing, it crashed, and I lost the whole day's worth of work. Also, I had the program make references to the real file, not store the actual file, but still the QPict size was huge compared to the database created by Mediaboard One.
My choice was clear: Mediaboard One. When I tested it out with just a few files, I could immediately see it organized my files the way I wanted them to be. By using "Smart Add", it let the folders appear the way I have them organized on the hard drive. It also allowed me to assign keywords, etc. at the time of import. If I want to change a keyword later, it is very easy, and because of its right pane, you can even select one graphic and change the keyword in the pane without going to another window. Doing a search for a keyword is lightning fast, and accurate. It allows you to set up Smart Folders also. So I then imported everything, which went very smoothly and took less time. Never once did this app crash, and it felt so stable that I didn't fear the beach ball as I imported one folder after another without pausing.
I'm extremely pleased with my purchase which I quidkly made yesterday, and without reservation, recommend this app highly.
