LiveQuartz is a simple and powerful free photo editor for Leopard. It is based on non-destructive layers and filters. The layers are at the left and the filters are at the right of the window.

To edit a photo, just drag it into the window (or layers' list) and it will be added as a new layer. LiveQuartz handles Multi-Touch Trackpads since version 1.8. You can watch a screencast of LiveQuartz in help menu or with this link: http://www.rhapsoft.com/?menu=livequartz_video

The software is localized in 11 languages : English, Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese, Danish, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Persian, Russian and Spanish. LiveQuartz 1.7.3 will remain available on the website for Tiger users.

APPLEDOGX  This app is a diamond in the rough. Great retouching features. Needs a magic wand tool or some sort of magnetic lasso. Would also like to see an easy red-eye tool as well as blue, green and yellow eye tool for pets that few apps have. Undo remembers too much, though this is not always a bad thing, it would be nice to be able to have a "macro undo" and a "micro undo". This app deserves much more publicity!

ROBEARH  I do like the interface but find it quite limiting. It is a free utility so I didn't expect a lot of features. Resizing a photo and cropping is no simple task with this software. The software has got potential though.

TOMIS  Positives:

* choice of complex or simple interface

* underlying functionality of this program is excellent

Negatives:

* clumsy interface, needs to be streamlined

* undo system records too many steps

Summary: I really like this program. They have the foundation of a killer app here. Lots of ability for various image manipulations. Unfortunately, the interface is really holding it back right now.

JETFIREDX  Lots of potential, but not very usable at the moment. Slow...very slow. I am running a dual 1.8 G5 and working at all in a zoomed state is intolerable.

It also has some very easy to find bugs lurking just under the surface.

Example Steps:

1. Select the line tool.

2. Start drawing a line and drag a length.

3. Move the end point around the canvas.

4. Select UNDO from the edit menu.

Result: Each position the end point moved to is recorded and must be undone individually.

I would suggest doing everything possibly to tighten up the speed on this program and fix obvious bugs. It "feels" like it is spending a lot of cycles doing nothing or doing too much when nothing needs to be done. Please keep working on it and I look forward to another release.

SPECIAL SAUCE LETTUCE CHEESE  This is a good little program that works great on my G5. No problem with a delay on larger files at all. Its obviously nothing close to photoshop, but has loads of potential and a nice clean interface.

DEBTMAN7  This looks pretty neat, but I have to agree with others, with any somewhat large image it's unbearably slow. I tried opening up a 2592x1944 image on a 1.6 Ghz G5 and it was unusable. Roughly a 5 second delay between trying to paint and it actually happening. With a smaller image (say 640x480) it works reasonably well and is a decent free image editor.

ROB C  For those who find this slow, iMaginator (another Core image based app) works reasonably well on older hardware by utilising OpenGL to speed the filters.

ANONYMOUS  Well it looks cool but the entire app is so mind bogglingly slow it's unusable.

I can't believe this is as good as it gets with CoreImage, may as well use Photoshop which is about 30 times faster.

ROMAIN PIVETEAU  Tip : now, in beta 5, you can hide filters' interface with a button at the bottom right of the window to have more space for the image.

ANONYMOUS  Still hoping for a revamped interface as stated below and for speed increases on larger sized images.
