SéBASTIEN NOURY  Drag-n-drop is somehow supported.

You just have to drop the Folder/Volume on the "Path" text field (you will see a little plus-sign appearing).

TNH  Uses: Many external devices that use the Mass Storage profile (ex: Cameras, Mp3 players, USB keys, Portable Gaming Systems, etc) not only have no use for the .DS_Store file, but may also fail to function correctly because it, and other Filesystem artifacts are present.

This is a useful tool for doing what people would have to do recursively from the command line (remove rm recursively the specific file called .DS_Store).

Why this is not an option in the OS (handling of Mass Storage could be done w/ an option to not maintain finder prefs AND not transfer metadata files over further mapping per volume if requested) is somewhat bothersome.

Improvements: This application would be much better if it gave you an option to erase both the .DS_Store AND the metadata ._Filename files from external volumes.

Example: An example of Mac FS artifacts causing problems would be deleting an album on a Sony PSP. If the .DS_Store and the ._ metadata files are present the device will be unable to delete the album because the file is in a storage folder and the directory will not actually be empty.

The damage that can be done with this application is basically limited to removing your finder view setups.

.DS_Stores breed like rabbits so don't worry about them being gone. If you use column view it's a no brainer.

I would give this some stars if it stated it killed metadata. Overall it is useful to those who are needlessly afraid of the command line interface (Terminal) and has some easy potential.

SéBASTIEN NOURY  Bored of external hard drives and file-servers (WebDAV, SMB, NFS) filled with useless .DS_Store files ?

DeStore is a little app erasing recursively .DS_Store files used to format directory layout in Finder.

But be careful, once erased you'll lose the Finder layout you are used to for the concerned directories.

BEWILDERED  Why? What's the benefit? This is utterly bizarre without any explanation why the author believes it's a good idea.

This looks like a wonderful way to completely screw up the Mac OS in 2 seconds flat. Some piece of free software!

SéBASTIEN NOURY  I've juste written this little free app to help people keeping others drive free of Apple only aware files.

DeStore is a simple tool to erase .DS_Store files polluting multi-user/multi-OS external hard drives (Yes, I have windows users among my friends, sorry dude) or network partitions like samba or webdav for example.

In fact, DeStore will erase your Finder formating preference for the cleaned directory and its subdirectories and I've added a warning on the project page to prevent people to screw their $HOME up.

DANO  For example, I have a cell phone that mounts as a USB drive. I can transfer MP3s to it and listen to them with headphones, but the Finder leaves all these files on my memory card and, when my phone tries to play them, it screws up the mp3 player app. This removes those and saves me that headache.

DAVIS1  Just remember when you erase DS_store files you lose all the desktop folder and file locations you are used to.

SéBASTIEN NOURY  Yes but in fact, Finder loves to fill my file-server with theses OSX format files.

But I'll add a small warning text on the project page :)
