DESCRIPTION
CPU Speed Menu allows you to switch between the different performance settings of your computer by a single mouse click. It is no longer necessary to open System Preferences, navigating to the Energy Saver pane and selecting the Options item. This is helpful for users who must switch between different speed settings very often, for example when temporarily performing processor-intensive tasks. Switching manually to a speed which meets your current needs best can improve battery load on portable computers, or avoid noise problems with cooling fans and power supply units on desktop computers. This tool does not need any space in the Dock and does not consume processing power while it is running in the background.
You can download the application CPU Speed Menu for free. This allows you to evaluate the software to see if it suits your needs.
The only restrictions are:
The application will quit after running five (5) minutes.
A demo mode panel will appear each time you launch the application.
GRUMPYTICO Oh come on. You get the *same* functionality by having the Energy Saver menu item!!! It takes ONE click to move from Better Performance to Better Energy Saver w/o any 3rd party tool installed. Don't tell me you did not know this before writing this software? (Version 1.2)
ANONYMOUS Stop posting this "FastAndSlow" crap. FastAndSlow is a very poor alternative. Its installer might crash, it doesn't work correctly on PowerMacs, it installs a MenuCracker which will patch your system, it might open a security hole which is confirmed by the author, it has no reference manual, etc. You get what you pay for... its so simple.. it needs no reference doku..
..try it ..if you dont like it delete it simply from user/library/bundles

LLSCOTTS I agree. FastAndSlow is totally reliable and easy to use. I've used it on my PowerMac G5 for over a year now with no problem whatsoever. There's absolutely no need to pay for this functionality. (Version 1.2)

sudo pmset reduce 1 (CPU=High)
sudo pmset reduce 0 (CPU=Low)
sudo pmset dps 1 (CPU=Auto)
pmset has a lot of useful options - try man pmset (Version 1.0)

JUNIUS MALPERT If you're going to start issuing sudo commands on the terminal, you'd better restor to System Preferences - easier and faster.
And this piece of soft is intended, I suppose, to be even easier and faster than that, but although the guy is entitled to ask for it whatever he feels like, I think it is not worth it. If a freeware able to do this does not exist, someone will come up with one sooner or later (and don't wonder if it turns out to be better than this). (Version 1.0)
