EDITOR NOTES
MacUpdate RSS feed: http://www.macupdate.com/mommy/macsurferx.xml
DESCRIPTION

RSS Menu is a systemwide menu that allows you to read and organize your favourite RSS or Atom feeds.

The articles are automatically updated and you will get a notification when new articles are available or when some other event occurs. In addition to visual notification, you can also enable speech notification and choose one of the many built in voices.
It is also possible to integrate iTunes (for podcasts) and Safari (for RSS bookmarks) with RSS Menu.

Key features include:

  • background application (doesn't get in your way and is accessible from anywhere)
  • very fast parsing engine
  • importing and exporting of OPML files
  • Growl and speech notification
  • many options to customize the menu
  • support for grouping feeds in submenus and adding seperators
  • support for using RSS Menu as an external reader in Safari (or any other application)
  • support for integration with iTunes and Safari
  • support for favourite icons (aka page icons)

Note: Fixed a last minute bug that would generate a lot of CPU and memory. Please redownload RSS Menu, we apologize for the incovenience.
WHAT'S NEW

JEREMIAHTWICE  I don't know...I wanted to like this product as it just seems so cool. And it is a very polished product, perfect for the geek who loves his RSS.

I just feel it could be easier to use. I want to be able to choose from a nice list of RSS feeds like those shown in the screenshot.

So, I think it is a very nice piece of software--but perhaps a little more than I personally was looking for.

SHAUN  Excellent little app. I only use it for news feeds as it saves me the time of opening Safari only to find that there is nothing interesting to read most of the time.

GLOBETROTTERDK  I can't get the feed to work from my Google Reader account. The menu item is grayed out. I also seem to be unable to have more than one Gmail feed. This is possible in most of the other notifiers for both OS X and Firefox.

I am using version 1.11.2 on a G5 single (PPC) with OS X Tiger 10.4.11.

JACKER  Great application now as it turned out with this version. Everything work like a charm. Gmail is also working again, how cool is that!! Open Gmail in you Safari and click the RSS icon in the link bar, and you're done!. Now all my information is tight together, mail and news. It saving so much RAM and CPU, it is untrue!! Such a great economic/ergonomic brilliance.

Apperance: 5/5

Easy of use: 5/5

Value: 5/5

Stability: 5/5 (fast reply and improvements along, but testing should be done beforehand!!)

Features: 4/5 (Because there is still potential with global shortcuts, and a key-click on menu-bar icon combination)

I hope these will be incorporated soon!

JACKER  Gmail has constant problems, I think they just launched it, and anyway it's ATOM NOT RSS. I tried Gmail myself with NetNewsWire, didn't work either.

WZRDJR  Can't say I love this new version either. The feed from my Gmail account is constantly grayed out. The folders lists (0) feeds when there are no new updates but I preferred it when it just listed nothing.

Can we download the previous version anywhere?
