DESCRIPTION
ATutor is an Open Source Web-based Learning Content Management System (LCMS) designed with accessibility and adaptability in mind. Administrators can install or update ATutor in minutes, and develop custom templates to give ATutor a new look. Educators can quickly assemble, package, and redistribute Web-based instructional content, easily retrieve and import prepackaged content, and conduct their courses online. Students learn in an adaptive learning environment.
ATutor is the first fully inclusive LCMS, complying with the W3C WCAG 1.0 accessibility specifications at the AA+ level, allowing access to all potential learners, instructors, and administrators, including those with disabilities who may be accessing the system using assistive technologies. Conformance with W3C XHTML 1.0 specifications ensures that ATutor is presented consistently in any standards compliant technology.
WHAT'S NEW
Version 1.6.3:
- Social Networking: Users are be able to develop a profile, and form networks of contact. The Google OpenSocial Container standard has been implemented in ATutor, and the primary social tools have been developed. A wide range of existing tools conforming with the OpenSocial Gadget standard can be plugged into ATutor to create a personalized networking environment.
- Fluid Libraries Upgrade: Developers can now make use of the tools available in the Fluid Infusion 1.1 libraries. Implemented in this release, the grid reorder, used to drag-and-drop course tools to order them. The Fluid multifile uploader has been upgraded. Other tools now available for development include an inline text editor, an inline WYSYWIG editor, several reoderers for arranging interface features, and more. - Theme Updates: A bunch of the older themes have been updated to work more effectively with new features in ATutor.
jQuery Glossary replacement for Overlib: The aging OverLib library used to generate glossary popups has been replaced by a more modern jQuery based glossary utility. (Norwegian Centre for Telemedicine)
- Detailed Course Tools View: Instructors can now choose to present course tools as the standard icons available in previous versions of ATutor, or present them in a detailed view that includes the latest information generated by a tool, such as current tests, the latest forum posts, or direct links to chat transcripts for example. Course tool icons have been updated with some fresh new ones. (University of Bologna)
- Added LaTeX support: Now use LaTeX math equations anywhere in ATutor, including forums, blogs, content, test questions, announcements, etc.
- CAPTCHA Security: Administrators can now turn on CAPTCHA to ensure only humans, and not machines, can register in ATutor. Includes audio CAPTCHA for those who can not see CAPTCHA images. (Fraser Health Authority)
- Maximum Login Security: Administrators can set Maximum Login Attempts to prevent repeated trys at guessing user login information. (Fraser Health Authority)
- TinyMCE WYSIWIG Update: The ATutor visual editor has been updated with TinyMCE V3.2.5
- AChecker Update: ATutor's accessibility checker has been updated with the new AChecker 1.0, with its Web services linked into the content editor to provide integrated accessibility checking during content creation.
REQUIREMENTS
HTTP Web Server is required. (We recommend Apache)
PHP version 4.3.0+, or 5.0.2+, with Zlib, MySQL (and MBString for ATutor 1.6+) support enabled.
MySQL - As of ATutor 1.6, MySQL 4.1.10+ is required.

SMCCANDLISH "Do not use Apache 2.x"? You're kidding, right? How hard can it be to simply document what has to be twiddled to make this work under the current, modern version of Apache, which is almost certainly going to be what will ship with MacOS X 10.5, and already what most serious Mac-based webmasters are using (either via Fink, DarwinPorts or a manual install). Anyway, this seems like a great project and a whole lot of work, to support only a dying server. Might as well have made this a MacOS 9 only app. ;-)

DR3VI1 Problems seem to happen with this version 1.5.1 and the newer version 1.5.2 of replicating Course Content data. 27 Duplicate records are always created. Also when creating content data When Using Mozilla you get A popup saying "No content data found". IE you get a "page not found error" From what I could gather it's an IIS Issue their having with this software, and are unable to fix.... From what I could gather on the net this ONLY Works with Apache Server, So heads up folks on IIS I'm only giving it a low rating because there was no warning about the IIS, I had to spend hours blowing my brains out trying to figure that one out. Other than that it seems like a cool system.
