DESCRIPTION
Witch... Have you ever wanted to switch to a certain window, not just the application it belongs to? While you can use Exposé to switch windows, doing so can be very clumsy if you're the keyboard-only type of user. And don't all of these windows look just the same when they are scaled down?
Witch lets you access all of your windows by pressing a shortcut and choosing from a clearly arranged list of window titles. Moreover, you can use Witch to...
- Directly access minimized windows without using your mouse
- Close minimized windows without bringing them to front first
- Zoom, de-/minimize, and close windows on the fly
WHAT'S NEW
Version 2.0.2:
- [new] To make minimized windows more discernible, their icons are now displayed inside their own little "docks". (You can edit those docks' border color in the "Appearance" section of the Witch preference pane.)
- Available languages: English, French, German.
Version 2.0.1:
- [fixed] KeyCue no longer interferes with Witch's windows selector.
- [new] Icon by Lars Herrmann.
- [new] French localization by Ronald Leroux.
- Available languages: English, French, German.
Version 2.0:
- [new] you can now have Witch display shortcuts for jumping to windows directly ("Behavior" > "Windows List" > "Show shortcut badges")
- [fixed] sorting windows by window activity is now much more reliable (this issue was known as "the iTerm bug")
- [improved] updated Witch's source code and user interface in numerous places to make Witch work better with Mac OS X 10.5 and future OS versions (some users may have noticed those rather dramatic console.log messages concerning some deprecated CoreGraphics functions that were logged for older Witch versions, for instance)
- please note that starting with this version, Witch is distributed as shareware
- available languages: English, German
Version 1.0.2:
- Both Witch's preference pane and the background process are universal binaries now. This means that Witch runs natively on both PowerPC and Intel-based Macs.
- Available languages: English, French, German.
REQUIREMENTS
Mac OS X 10.3.9 or later.

JMKNOBLE > A week to go after payment and still waiting for the serial... They even don't reply to emails!!! Regrettably, I've had a more than similar experience. I tried to purchase Witch 2.0.2 through the ManyTricks website, using PayPal. After nearly 45 days and going through the PayPal dispute process, all I got was my money back ... there was no response at all from ManyTricks. It's a shame, as I tried very hard to give money, and I would have preferred the software license to the refund. Anyone have more info on what's going on with ManyTricks? (Version 2.0.2)

DRUMSHANBO I just ordered Witch and got my license instantly. (Version 2.0.2)

ROBOTANK I haven't had any issues getting licences for Many Tricks software, but I have noticed that they respond either very slowly or not at all to other sorts of email contact. For example, I've sent them two bug reports and never heard a peep out of them nor seen the issue addressed. Moreover, updates for their software rarely appear, even when there are obvious bugs. In any case, these folks make some very nice utilities, but I would never send them my money again after experiencing their utter lack of customer care and support. (Version 2.0.2)

WCITYMIKE Now Shareware. Somehow I'm not surprised -- I don't think Peter Mauer will have a freeware app left in his stable once he's done. Shame. (Version 2.0.1)

RADDLE Sorry, is that a joke? This guy writes some of the most useful and well-behaved Mac utilities in existence, and yet he's somehow letting the side down and joining the dark side (after releasing many free updates over the years) by deciding to charge small sums of money for all his hard work? If you do all *your* work for no money, then I apologize. Otherwise this just sounds like the whine of the freeloader. (Version 2.0.2)

DONKEYOTAY I don't think that Witch was ever freeware, it was donationware. If you read his blog you'll see that few people did donate to any of his programmes. Now that's a Shame. (Version 2.0.2)

JAZZADDICT Ditto... I'm grateful for how long he kept his work free as he made improvements. Now I'm happy to pay for his apps. If you think all it's worth is free, then you probably think it sucks, in which case, why are you using it? Ya know? If it's not worth $12 to you it's probably not essential enough where you even need it to begin with. (Version 2.0.2)

JOSH LINDQUIST 1000% improvement in window management for OS X with this app. It's like giving your windows the ability to dance with your fingers. Minimize Window: Command M (OS default) Maximize Window: Option M Un-minimize all Front-most app windows: Ctrl-Option-Command M Thought I'd share my config incase you're at a loss for custom shortcut ideas. Pressing Option M in my config repeatedly toggles last window state w/maximized - SLICK. Witch makes modifying these shortcuts possible and easy with a nice System Pref module.

GORDON142 Doesn't seem to work right with Spaces. Only sometimes displays Windows from non-active spaces. (Version 2.0)

DOBES works perfectly with my Leopard. I just discovered this yesterday and I don't know how I got along without it. I prefer keyboard commands, and this allows me to unminimize windows and cycle through minimized windows without mousing, among many other things. I use command keys for Apple commands, control for Quicksilver, and Option for Witch, and now my OS is perfect! (Version 1.0.2)

NEUR0MANCER I love this prefpane, too. Great functionality. I have one request, though--is it possible to get Witch to show the Safari or Firefox TABS that are open within the browser window and allow you to switch to a particular tab? I find myself habitually Command-Tabbing to switch to a Firefox tab, even though all I can do is switch to that window. Thanks for the great software. (Version 1.0.2)

SIMICHAVEL Once upon a time, when switching windows with Witch, I could highlight a window and click w or q, and thereby close the window oe even quit the program. This seems no longer to be possible. Any insights here? Tips? Plans for the future? MacBook Pro / OS 10.4.7 (Version 1.0.2)

GERBER After hearing endless complaints from Windows users (or "switchers") about how much of a drag it was for cmd+tab to not include individual windows (as it does in Windows XP), I figured I'd give this little program a try and see what all the fuss was about. Well, I'm gonna say it: The Windows way is better. Well, sort of. See, on Windows, you don't see the NAME of every window. You just get an icon. You have twenty MS Word documents open? 20 MS Word icons will show up, and you get to scrub through and pick your favorite! Witch gives you all that plus one better: Your windows are NAMED. This simple enhancement makes it a far superior app switcher than Windows or Mac provides. Witch also provides a very customizable appearance, many configurable hotkeys to do just about anything (I especially appreciate the ability to switch between the current application's windows -- great for when I DO have 20 MS Word docs open!) and a handful of other goodies. All for the low low price of whatever you think is fair! My one regret is that it can't take over cmd+tab, so you end up having to use option+tab or something dumb like that. Apple shouldn't be so greedy with their keyboard shortcuts. (Version 1.0.2)

RIDOGI This is an excellent app. I haven't replaced command tab, but it bridges the gap between command tab and command tilde nicely. The ability easily bring up a specific minimized window is incredibly useful. I do have a few suggestions to make this app even better. 1. Adopt command tab's tilde for reversing the direction in addition to shift. 2. Adopt command tab's quick change (with just a tap of the tab key) between the two most recent windows without showing the witch window. Those complaints said, this thing is a great addition to my workflow and has earned 5 stars across the board. $ has been sent via the link on the author's page. I look forward to future versions of this. (Version 1.0.2)
