CAPITAINE HADDOCK  Marvelous for me !

What easier than iBackup to save the preferences of the Applications ?

With Time machine you can't select them so easily !

The developer is also very friendly !

5 stars

PETER_EARTHMAN  Can someone tell me why to use this instead of Timemachine?

Any benefits? I mean, do we need another Backup tool when it is already there with OS X?

OSOS10  This lousy excuse of a backup utility backed up a little test folder I made and wiped out of the rest of the data on the disk (10GB). I doubled checked all the settings - itÂ’s only sleazy iBackup to blame. The only thing to do is to worn you guys from this of low-end product.

IBACKUP  Hi

I saw that your commend is on Versiontracker too. I assume you have done something wrong. See the help for support or write me a mail, instead rating the software as poor...

DAMINO  I agree, we need synchronisation-incremental backup, and it would be a perfect software.

DETTO  Isn't this what rsync with the --delete option does?

SIMICHAVEL  I had used iBackup for many years and generally had been pleased with its development. But I have never been able to find incremental backing up. Without this, backing up has always taken too long. If the fnuctionality is there, please note where.

BRUCE_Y  from the user manual:

Q: Does iBackup support incremental backups

A: No it doesn't.

But it copies modified items only.

MACWATCHER  I used versions of iBackup up to 5.1.7 quite happily for more than a year, and apart from the confusing help manual, I found it was a great little app that did what is was supposed to, efficiently and with the minimum of fuss.

Now, at one stroke (5.2.6) the app has been stripped of much of its usefulness. The log report no longer lists the files which have been amended or added during the backup.

Is there ANY user who doesn't want to know what has been affected by the backup? I don't know of any, and I have had to restore 5.1.7 to get this functionality back. I won't be updating to any newer version. (The developer tells me the change is to get extra speed, but I did not notice any difference during the backups I did using 5.2.6).

I would strongly advise any users who need the BASIC ESSENTIAL MINIMUM facts of file updates, to download a previous version if it is still available.

IBACKUP  Hi

I don`t agree. iBackup let you select the items you want to restore, but only the same granularity as you have backed up. Let me explain: If you back up the whole folder documents (you select it in your home folder), you are able to restore the documents folder but not particular items of it. If you want to do that, you must backup these items first. In this example you must back up (or select) the items of the folder documents (or you select it as a smart folder), then you are able to restore all items individually. See the help on the web page for more details.

TIAGO  So, basically, all you need in order to be able to perform a partial restore is the ability to predict which folders/files will be damaged, so that you can backup them individually... Piece of cake, huh...

SIMICHAVEL  Ridiculous response. Just back the whole thing up then. The developer has given you the control to save time or space and select exactly what is essential to you to backup at any given time, then to restore it.

FORMICA  If that's the way this app works then it's retarded -- even if it's FREE. I've used many, many different backup apps, some fairly expensive and some cheap or free, but no matter the price it should work logically. So, please tell me that the description above of how it restores is wrong.

JLARO  This program may be fine for backup, but the true test of a backup is in the restore. In that respect it falls very short.

It can only do a total restore, but not a restore of individual files or folders. Compared to resurrecting a whole drive after a disaster, finding the old version of a lost or modified file is a much more frequent occurrence, and this program cannot do it. I don't want to restore 100 GB when I need one file.

ALEXWEIN  I've been using this program for many months now. It works consistently and as claimed, with only a few minor glitches along the way (mostly related to iDisk issues). I have several backups scheduled for different times of the day and week, including backups to iDisk. It just keeps getting better with each incarnation.
