DESCRIPTION
MKVtoolnix is a set of tools to create, alter, and inspect Matroska files under Mac OS X, Linux and other Unices, and Windows. They do for Matroska what the OGMtools do for the OGM format and then some.

Since May 1st 2003, the Matroska libraries themselves and my Matroska tools are officially released as a first public beta version. Although all of them are still under heavy development, I urge you to download the software, test it and report any errors you encounter to me. I'm always grateful for good bug reports because I miss so many mistakes and you guys normally find them. Your feedback is important to me :)

FORMSOLDIER  warrenpeace is right, mkv plays fine on computers. the problem is all other media devices that are incompatible with mkv. I'm sick of changing wires and outputs and moving my macbook pro from my desk to my A/V amplifier.

I want a good solution for watching x264 @ mkv on my PS3.

x264 is supported by PS3, the codec just needs to be moved from mkv to another container (e.g .vob), one that PS3 can playback. this app does the job. it would be nice if it was possible to mux in subs in that same process. Although I think it does nowadays, I haven't tried it in a while, I'm gonna give it a go some time this week. I'll then be streaming the .vob to my PS3 using MediaLink (http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/26673/medialink).

MISHA  You should probably contact the dev and ask him to link to your 2.8 version:

http://www.bunkus.org/videotools/mkvtoolnix/contact.html

We can also host/distribute it from here, if you want to upload the file to this listing (you might need to create a MU dev account and claim ownership of the listing first to upload the file):

LEOOFBORG  I emailed Moritz about this, and he is the admin of the MkToolnix *site* and not the distro. The MacUpdate admin really needs to correct this and put the *real developer's* contact info so that person can build a proper distro.

'Proper distro' means putting the libs in the application bundle or in /Library/Application Support/ and not in /opt or anywhere else.

Again, not everyone here understands how to build from source; or uses a package manager like Darwinports or Fink.
