DESCRIPTION
FLACer is an free encoder/decoder for FLAC (the free lossless audio codec). FLACer also uses the Sound Exchange Library for conversion of CDDA audio.

To use FLACer, simply drag and drop the files you would like encoded (registered version only) or decoded into the list and press "Begin". Higher compression levels take more time to encode. FLACer supports AIFF, WAV, and CDDA (AIFC) formats, in addition to FLAC.

Flac files can be played using such applications as VLC on Mac OS X and xmms under X11.

    SHARPS  Its awesome. FLAC is the best way to compress audio because it preserves the sound 100%, and still giving at least 2:1 compression. FLACer has been working well for me with os x 10.4.10.

    EASTCOAST  This worked great, I have tried all the others and had all but given up on downloading the better sounding FLAC. Many thanks for keeping it simple. Cannot understand why Apple does not provide this for us.

    STORMCHILD  I guess you've never noticed the "Apple Lossless" codec that's been in iTunes and QuickTime for several years now. It provides lossless compression at about the same ratio as FLAC, but uses the industry standard MPEG4 file format.

    CALLE  Works as described, for free. Well done!

    It's the only app I use in Rosetta though, an Intel-release would be appreciated. Also I can't get it to put the converted files in the designated folder - they appears in the origin folder no matter what I do, but it's not really a problem - and it would cut one step in the process if it would encode FLACs to MP3/MP4 instead of just AIFFs (I know, I'm more of a diskophile than a discophile).

    CHRIS FILCHAK  All I needed was a converter for a FLAC torrent. Period. FLACer 1.1 was the ONLY freeware that worked nearly flawlessly, and I tried five of them.

    Here's my specifics; I make no other claims:

    eMac/OSX 10.3.9. . .

    converted 20 FLAC files to AIFF. . .

    no FLAC file larger than 57 MB. . .

    Only flaw: AIFF's didn't go to the specified "Output Directory". . .

    Other than that, it rocked.

    H. FILCHAK  For me, the AIFFs went to the specified output directory without any difficulty. I suspect the problem might not be the FLACer. ;)

    DARTH BROOKS  I was going nuts tryin to convert/play/import FLAC files ripped in Windows, and FLACer converted them to AIFF. Thank you.

    ANONYMOUS  FLACer is the only direct way to get from cdda to flac without out first ripping to wav/aiff on macosx [to my knowlege]. This is a step saved and therefore FLACer is a necessary tool for any cd ripper who wants to make flac files. I really like SoundJuicer for GNU/Linux, I'd like a port for OSX of that app. I cannot believe FLACer is the only one step cd to flac option for OSX users. It's good, but there's room for some additional options, maybe support for mp3 ripping as well
