DESCRIPTION

FileWrangler's speed is back to the gold old days; 2.5 GB of data, composed of 11,000 files nested 8 subfolders deep can be renamed in under 30 seconds on a PowerBook.

Select a folder, filter its contents, recurse its folder structure, choose your naming scheme and click the "Rename Files" button. Dozens, or hundreds or thousands of files are quickly renamed to meet your criteria. Many thanks to the thousands of people who have downloaded and used FileWrangler. It's your interest and feedback that have kept the project going.

The important new feature of version 1.2 is user-definable configuration sets. You can customize the interface as you see fit and save those interface settings as a set, to be called upon again and again. You can also choose one of your custom sets to be the default set upon program launch.

Additionally, FileWrangler now features full preferences, allowing you to tweak things like how the numbering handles subfolders, what constitutes a character violation, and even the color of violation highlighting. FileWrangler 1.2 is all about customization and making the program your own. Download includes robust PDF manual.

JONATHAN ARMENTA  Saved my arse. I needed to process about 900 images and during my upgrade to OSX I failed to get a newer version of zinorename which always crashed. I found this easier to use interface and quicker results. Thank you very much.  (Version 1.2)

    CHRISTOPHER DRUM  Regarding FileWrangler speed....

Here are some time tests I just ran. Given a folder with two subfolders, themselves with two subfolders each, and a total file quantity of 50 files (some of which are RTFD documents), renaming was near instantaneous. By duplicating files and subfolders, I created a folder with six subfolders, themselves with four to six subfolders each, and a total quantity of almost 1,000 files. Renaming of all documents took about 10-15 seconds. Further reduplication of all files and subfolders, creating a complex folder heirarchy and a total of 5,000 files took 1 minute 50 seconds to rename all files.

These tests were run on a PowerBook G4 running 10.4.1 at 1.5GHz and 2GB of RAM. Your mileage may vary. I don't know if these speeds are slower than expected; they seem fairly snappy to me (especially given how long it would take to do manually). Perhaps the current lack of a progress indicator makes FileWrangler feel slower than it really is?  (Version 1.2)
