DESCRIPTION
Delicious Library allows you to import, browse, and share all your books, movies, music and video games with Delicious Library. Run your very own library from your home or office using our impossibly simple interface. Delicious Library's digital shelves act as a visual card-catalog of your books, movies, music and video games.
A scan of a barcode is all Delicious Library needs to add an item to your digital shelves, downloading tons of info from the internet like the author, release date, current value, description, and even a high-resolution picture of the cover. Import your entire library using our exclusive full-speed iSight video barcode scanner, our Flic Wireless Laser Bar Code Scanner, or (the slow way) entering the titles by hand. Once you have all of your items in your Mac, you can browse though your digital shelves, check stuff out to friends using Apple's built-in Address Book and calendar, and find new items to read, watch, and play using Library's recommendations.
Quickly importing your stuff into Delicious Library doesn't require a dedicated barcode scanner - you can use any QuickTime-supported digital video camera, like your Apple iSight. Just hold the barcode on the back of any book, movie, CD, or video game in front of the camera and your item magically shows up on your digital shelf seconds later. Using the same technology found in $800 industrial-strength CCD barcode scanners, Delicious Library reads every single frame of digital video; seeking out, targeting, and instantly decoding any visible barcodes. This results in a seamless process of scanning that lets you import about 750 items an hour (assuming you can move your arms that fast). At that rate the staff of the new downtown Seattle Central Library could work together to import all of their 1.4 million books into Delicious Library in just over 5 hours.

KBEAT A horribly disappointing mess. After the long wait, the hype, the awards months prior to release, this app had a lot to live up to. Sadly, it fails on most fronts. Its performance is terrible, the interface is quirky, and it's overly cumbersome. Pretty? Absolutely. Usable? Not so much. I wanted to love this app as I'm an eye candy guy when it comes to interface, but I just can't. For my money, DVDpedia, Gamepedia, etc. are the best library management tools available on OS X right now. The coverflow support in the finder means I rarely have to open the actual apps, and with the iPhone support and regular updates, they keep getting better. I wish they offered an "all in one" version, but perhaps that's part of the key to the speedy performance of the applications. (Version 2.0.6)

THERMIDOR I don't know why this is hyped so much. It looks nice, and works okay. Or it did. The 2.05 Leopard version has taken several steps backward. It slows things down, it forces crap on you that I've never wanted or needed, and it takes things away that I actually liked. Suddenly the sidebar is gone, and it's all at the bottom. Certainly no more convenient. Why wouldn't they give you the choice where it appears, if they felt they HAD to move something to the bottom? The reviews are intrusive, and very irritating. I don't need a review for something I OWN. Why would I care what other people say about something I'm no longer in the market for? Suddenly it's very difficult to change the cover art. I have no idea why the ease of version 1 is gone. It's bizarre. I'm stuck here trying to figure out a pattern in its behavior, and coming up blank. Jpegs dragged from the desktop will work, but god forbid you mis-position it. There's no undo. Before, you could just delete the cover art by selecting it in the sidebar. Simple. That's gone now. Charming. I don't like the dark bezel info that appears when you scroll. A rectangle appears when you scroll past a certain rate, right in the center of the field, right where you'd like to focus. Why isn't this an option, rather than a forced "gift"? Thanks for making it annoying to scroll. How many hundreds of programs manage to give a scroll function without some stupid visual cheat sheet? Irritating, all of it. I wouldn't buy this again. I'll be checking out the competing programs. I agree with many here who are saying it's just eye candy. This is an expensive program that seems to spend as much on hype as on development. (Version 2.0.5)

MONTY LEE I bought this program for my DVD collection. I tried to import my collection from another program because the developer's web site says: "Delicious Library supports direct importing from a number of competing applications." It does not. This applied to only version 1 (which is not available anymore). The only import option for version 2 is via a text file, which means that the DVD covers are lost (and other information). I solicited the developer for help several times and in the past 9 months (starting in June 2008) about the import. To date I have received 1 replay that said to use version 1 to import (that was the extent of the help) and since then not a single reply. The program support is completely non-existent. Yes they have forums but you never get any responses there. I think the program is dead and the developer has given up on it. I spent the money on their program and scanner only to get no support and a program that doesn't work as advertised. I will say that if you are starting from scratch (i.e. scanning your DVD library for the first time), the program works. It will look up the information and the information display is great. But if you have an existing library, the import from another application does not work at all, and the import from a text file will leave the records scrambled and without any graphics. Bottom line: Buy the program if you will never need any support, because you aren't going to get any. (Version 2.0.7)

DARKENTRIES I have version 1. I like it well enough, but the Amazon integration is intrusive. After playing with version 2, I feel that aspect is even more intrusive. Please give me an option to turn off the reviews and recommendations. If I want this stuff, I'll open a browser and point it toward Amazon myself. This is not a value add to me and slows down the application. At least in version 1 the recommendations allowed me to add an item into the library if I had it already, or bought it. In version 2, it seems it's just an advertisement for Amazon. If I pay for an app, I expect no advertisements in it. The auto entry into the synopsis is not editable, apparently. Why? I can add my own synopsis, sure, but it does not override the other stuff, which I find of little use. The Synopsis field also does not allow me to enter multiple paragraphs. Again, why? With all the features, bells and whistles this application offers, is it so hard to allow me to put my own information only in here? I don't care about the Amazon.com reviews, or their product description. Please give me the option to remove these and then I'll consider an upgrade. (Version 2.0.5)

AMAKIN I wish the info panel was still on the side so that I could keep it open all the time and still have a good view of all my shelves. Maybe that could be an option as to where the drawer appears. (Version 2.0.4)

DIGITAL FURY It might be a version 2, but it's still suffers from the same weaknesses as the old version, form over substance, and the fact that competition exist in the form of Bruji's DVDpedia, Bookpedia et al. applications. Compared to the aforementioned pedias, Delicious Library (DL) 2 is still slower and has a tendency to crash, but more critical for me as an international customer getting books from all over the place; much more limited import sources. Where DL can't find a book/DVD or only returns partial info, DVDpedia and Bookpedia return a complete record almost every single time. Eye candy is worthless if the core features are weak. I mean considering they are priced the same, I could not reasonably give DL more than two stars for value. (Version 2.0.2)

SIGIL This application is buggy, hence not worth the price. There are better choices out there most cheaper. The customer service is great too bad the application does not reflect this. (Version 2.0.4)

LLONGLEY I've owned this program for a while and a few years ago I really liked it. A few days ago I decided to organize all my DVD's and divide them putting some in storage boxes and some ripped. The long and short of this is that I spent 2.5 days scanning in @700 DVD's with not a lot of trouble. This program has so much potential! Once everything was scanned in I set out to further organize my info to be sure I can find things when I want them. However, since the scanning is complete each time I open the program I either get this message (Here is my debugging information. Please report this part to : Object [0x1f2c73c0 ] from table "Medium" has problem "userSynopsis is not valid. (1550)" with key "userSynopsis")... or I get a lame message about the program being confused and prompting me to close the program and restart (which does nothing as within a few minutes the same thing again. I am running OS 10.6 but still, all this work and it really feels as if I am going to loose everything because the program is really unstable with my data in it. I am (as I type) moving the data over to Bento as I no longer trust this software. I was really disappointed to find no real assistance at the developers web site either. I really would like this software if it was more stable. I am not having any other software issues at this time. I have sent the reports to the developers as they have appear on my system and got a thank you for my submissions but thats it. (Version 2.2)

SERGESOUSZERO I have to disagree with the comments about the bad support. I had a probem yesterday and sent a email to the developper. One hour later, I got a reply from him that helped me fix the problem. I would rather say that he is very responsive. (Version 2.1.1)
