DESCRIPTION
unpkg is a utility that simply unpacks all the files in a Mac OS X package (.pkg file) into a folder. Very handy, and GNU GPL free too!
WHAT'S NEW
Version 4.0:
- entirely re-written in Python
- now works with multiple packages at once
- also now extracts 10.5-style packages (nested ones, too, and in 10.4 as well!)
- ripped out CocoaDialog, upgraded to a WebKit-based interface
REQUIREMENTS
Mac OS X 10.3.9 or later.

TICE Great app. I nearly allways use it to or before installing pkg's. I don't know about .mpkg, but in earlier versions it worked to rename the file to .pkg and then use unpkg. (Version 4.0)

SHOTGUNWEDDINGS Works fine for .pkg's but it doesn't work with .mpkg Might prove handy down the road anyways.

ANONYMOUS Dropped 3 different packages on this. For 2 of them it kicked out empty folders. I doubt a 1.2 MB file contained nothing. (Version 1.61)

TIMDOUG If you could direct me to the packages, I'd love to look into why they're not working. (Version 1.61)

BRILDENLANCH I've never seen this much discussion about an icon before. Interesting as it is, an icon is an icon, it doesn't matter. (Version 1.6)

ANONYMOUS Works as advertised! But it would be nice if it could extract individual files from the package, too. (Version 1.5)

ANONYMOUS The word 'platypus' itself is not in any way copyrighted or owned by the Olympic Committee, but that particular image of an animated platypus is in-fact a mascot from the Sydney 2000 games. Do a bit of research and you'll see for yourself. (Version 1.4)

ANONYMOUS One thing that everyone has overlooked is that this new icon is far superior to the old one because it actually provides some affordance to what the software does. While I'm sure the owner of that particular platypus image wouldn't object to a small freeware app using it as an icon, it probably shouldn't have been considered in the first place. Anyway, this is great and useful software. (Version 1.4)

PSEUDO TASUKI Am I the only person who thought of using Hexley (the Darwin mascot) instead? The current icon isn't quite as effective, either, since it doesn't really describe what the application does. Perhaps the package icon with arrows coming out of it? (Version 1.5)

ANONYMOUS Come on people, IT'S AN ICON! Whether it "provides affordance" or not doesn't change what the app does, does it? Heck, download some new icons and use them if it bothers you so much! Great little app. The fact it can't handle multiple pkg files doesn't hurt, because there's usually only one in a distribution anyway. Neat. (Version 1.5)

ANONYMOUS The Developer might want to change the icon, or he might end up in a law suit. (The animal, being a platypus, was a mascot of the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games.) (Version 1.3)

ANONYMOUS Thank you. I've changed the icon to something new and original in this version (even if MacUpdate doesn't update it). (Version 1.4)

ANONYMOUS Wow, that was updated in a matter of hours.

ANONYMOUS Sydney 2000 Olympic Mascot! Don't be ridiculous! The platypus (or it's symbol) does not belong to the Olympic organisation or anyone else. The icon is from the application "Platypus" for creating programs from scripts with a simple interface. http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/12046 (Version 1.4)

ANONYMOUS I am the author of the "Don't be ridiculous!" comment above. Shoot, I see what you mean. The "Platypus" app icon is an exact replica of the mascot. Shame on you "Platypus" developer! (Version 1.5)

TENJINANDO I have downloaded both the previous version and this. In both cases all I get is "drag package to unpkg" but no unpacking whatsoever. (Version 1.2)

ANONYMOUS I'm sorry to ask the obvious, but have you dragged a package file onto the unpkg icon? That's what it means by that wording. (Version 1.2)

ANONYMOUS Plus I found that I had to quit unpkg then drag my pkg file to unpkg icon for it to work... Didnt work while it was running... (Version 1.4)

ANONYMOUS These problems have been dealt with in version 1.5. (Version 1.5)
