EDITOR NOTES
The developer claims this to be version 1.7.4, but a 'Get Info' command issued against the downloaded file states that it is version 1.7.3
DESCRIPTION
iSweep is a utility that allows you to find, list, delete and backup duplicate tracks in iTunes. It allows you to control what is considered a duplicate based on a combination of Track Name, Artist, Album, File Size, File Type, Bit Rate, Genre and/or Track Length with a user selectable time threshold. iSweep can also "Protect Playlists" when doing backups and deletes. This keeps your playlists from breaking.

iSweep also allows you to search your hard drive for all music files that are not currently registered in the iTunes Library. It then gives you the ability to move all of the orphaned music files it has found to one location of your choice.

iSweep takes the pain out of finding and removing duplicates from iTunes.

WHAT'S NEW
Version 1.7.3:
  • Added Search Feature to search hard drive for music files that are not registered in the iTunes Database.
  • Added ability to move all orphaned music files that are found to a location of the user's choice.
  • Added a sound upon task completion (per user requests).
  • Added a help option in the menu.
REQUIREMENTS
Mac OS X 10.3.9 or later.

GORDON80  Any news about this desired program?

I just tried it for the first time - version 1.7.

It was described as easy to use... but I cannot get it going. In the "main" tap there are the compare options - great. :-)

However it doesn't find any duplicates here... :-(

In the "search" tap I can chose the directory to search - great. :-)

Well, within a second it lists thousands of files... but none of them are really duplicates... :-(

Very confusing. Why doesn't it work? Please make it work - I would buy it right away. Is there anything else out there that does the job?

PINKNEZUMI  This program doesn't work. It will delete the actual files, but doesn't remove them from iTunes itself so after iTunes realizes that the music is missing, you must manually remove all songs. It also tended to remove songs that were repeated. This program was not worth the cost and I'm sorry I purchased it. The developer, when emailed, was of no help at all. I'm very disappointed.

GAVIN KELLY  After paying the $15 registration fee through PayPal on 2/18/06, I have yet to receive the promised serial number. An e-mail to the developer has gone unanswered.

BILL MCGONIGLE  iSweep works. I had 10,000 songs to consolidate from multiple users' libraries that had been dumped together. iSweep found 6000 dupes and deleted them.

If it looks like it's not working broaden your search characteristics.

I make more than $3/hr so it was worth the $15 to me.

    ANONYMOUS  PLEASE HELP

    HI

Thanks so much for creating a program like this it is truly a big help. Unfortunately it dos not work.

I bought the program and have fallowed the directions but still it doesn’t delete any of my 4145 duplicates. The program runs through the motions showing me how many duplicates I have and then I ask it to delete it again goes thru the motions and very quickly it says it has successfully deleted all my duplicates when in actuality it has not done any thing. I truly hope you have a fix as I am in duplicate hell. Thanks for your time

    Peace

ANONYMOUS  Yes, iSweep launches iTunes if it isn't already running, then closes it. This forces the iTunes Database to flush to make sure that it is up to date before performing any searches against it.

ANONYMOUS  Personally I find this to be worse than iTunes' duplicate detection, and for one reason only. There is absolutely no iTunes integration.

Not to mention that an application costing $15 better do something pretty spectacular and yet it only lists duplicates in a text field.

ANONYMOUS  The application also allows backing up and or deleting of duplicates once registered.
