KINGLYBIRD  Its a fine program and works well uploading pictures, wich MacJournal doesn't. But at 30$ its a no no. Maybe at a next promo at at least 50% off.

WEB-JIVE  I have played with MarsEdit and it's a solid product with a promising future. One thing I would love to see is true Joomla support and then it would be a product I could recommend to all my customers with Macs. Jommla just passed the 3mil mark download for their 1.5x product in just a year so it's a large viable market.

THEODORE LEE  I've used all the major tools for publishing to my WP blog - ecto, Flock, and of course, the WP web based interface - and none of them compare in style, ease of use and simplicity to MarsEdit. MarsEdit is super simple to use, easy to configure, and powerful enough to handle just about every blogging task you can think of. The added imports from Flickr in v. 2 are extremely welcome.

Finally, Daniel Jalkut, the dev, is super responsive. I had an issue months back with a new build, and he was able to diagnose the problem inside of an hour. Try getting that level of care/involvement from the big guys. Support high quality indie grown software and try MarsEdit if you do any blogging and use a Mac.

EL_GUAPO  Lacks some simple features, doesn't refresh previews very well but it's strongest feature is its simplicity in design and function.

When NewsGator bought Rancharo development was promised to continue and a point release was made. That was almost a year ago and no news of any development has come across since. I'm afraid this app is dead which is a terrible shame as with a little work, this has real potential.

As it is, the web-ui for Wordpress has surpassed what MarsEdit can do making this tool antiquated.

ANONYMOUS  MarsEdit has a very nice interface. Very usable.

But to pry me away from ecto, they have to add WYSIWYG editing. At that point I'll consider the NNW2/MarsEdit bundle.

ANONYMOUS  MarsEdit is pretty good, but it's definately not worth $25, especially since it's replacing a free system (logging on to your blog with a web browser). I'd pay maybe $10.

MIKE POWER  I now use Marsedit to post to all my blogs. Not only is it considerably faster (especially if you need to correct a spelling mistake or change an entry in other ways) but it allows formatting and image insertion to be carried out with utter simplicity. The ability to use your own shortcuts makes it much more useful than blog-based editors and since the start it has been rock solid. Even when my machine has crashed Marsedit pops up with an automatically saved draft on restart. I thoroughly recommend it to any serious blogger.

CRAIG  I've tried ecto before, and it's a great app, but too complicated for what I wanted. Mars Edit is very simple to set up and use. The developer says he wanted to create a Mail.app-like interface for blog posting that presented a casual environment for blog writing, I that is the feeling that I noticed in Mars Edit before I had even read his comment about that. It makes blog posting very easy and casual for me.
