REQUIREMENTS
  • Bootable Mac OS X 10.1.5 or newer system
  • Retail RADEON Mac Edition graphics card (installed in AGP and/or PCI slot)
  • Firmware Update application file (included in download)
  • The computer MUST NOT be interrupted (shut down or power failure) during firmware update.
  • ATI RADEON DISPLAY UTILITIES 4.4 for Mac OS X 10.2.8 or Higher for full advanced feature-set

    ANONYMOUS  this not work with the ati 9600 (64mb) card that came with the first Power Mac G5's last year ??

    ANONYMOUS  If a card CAME with the Mac (meaning that you did not go out an BUY it and then install it) then this update is NOT for your Mac.

    It is for RETAIL cards, that means cards that you bought at a store and installed in your Mac yourself.

    RONNIE  Installed ATI Radeon ROM Updater Sept2004 on ATI 9000 Pro Mac card and my video resolution isn't always retained when coming out of sleep mode. Have to reset almost every time.

    ANONYMOUS  Hmph, Displays prefpane lost track of my LG Flatron 915FT with this "update", now it offers only VGA Display.

    IBOOK USER  Can this update be applied on iBook G4 800MHz?

    The iBook got a Radeon 9200, I think...

    This update is for RETAIL cards only. That means one that you bought and installed yourself (or had someone install it for you)

    ANONYMOUS  It's also a MOBILITY RADEON, not a radeon card. More importantly, it's not retail. they don't sell mobility cards in stores.

    ANONYMOUS  I applied this to my Radeon 8500. I everything went fine, but my card still only has 32 MB ram.

    Do you know the difference between ROM and RAM? Look it up. You happen to have a repository of information at your fingertips. Use Google or something and educate yourself to basic somputer terms.

    ANONYMOUS  Maybe he meant his Mac is saying his 8500 card only has 32Mb Ram (ie an error that he hoped new firmware would fix) The 8500 has 64MB.

    I suspect one of 2 things:

    It either isn't an 8500

    or (more likely)

    It is splitting the available VRAM between 2 monitors or 'thinks' there is another monitor or TV attached even if their isn't or it is switched off and hence 32MB is only available to the main display. If you go into ATI Utilities there should be some option to turn that off.

    ANONYMOUS  My DP 2Ghz G5 has a stock OEM ATI Radeon 9600 pro plus a retail Radeon 7000 PCI Mac Edition card. This firmware updater will update the 7000 only.

    Now It was foolish of me to use this firmware updater since nothing is broken, but I felt like trying this firmware updater anyway. Besides there is one new feature:

    Added Advanced display controls - requires ATI Displays 4.4.x

    It froze my system while appying the firmware update, but to no ill effect since the old ATI Displays tells me the Radeon 7000 firmware is at 113-85501-226, which is current according to the installer.

    The installer README warns not to allow the computer to shut down during the firware update process, but I did not expect the updater to freeze my computer itself.

    So I dodged a bullet. The Lucky angel protection policy worked!

    If you are not having any of the issues addressed in the README, then why apply this update?
