JIM MIITCHELL At first I was thinking this was going to be alot like my "Call of Duty" game. Same war--different game. (*please note: I am basing this review solely on the demo.) BF1942 contains much less action per minute of gameplay than CoD. Big environments mean a lot of running or driving to get to the action. The tanks and jeeps are fun to drive, if a bit tipsy, an thats when you can find one. One major boffo--you run over an enemy, but he merely gets pushed along. Weird. I loved the choice of unit. Assault, anti-tank, scout, (never tried medic--why bother), and engineer give a bit more depth-pf-play and replayability than CoD. Also, there are many commands available to give to teammates (but not real useful in demo). Thankfully, this is not just another CoD shooter. It is different, but just as good. I can imagine myself owning both games and not being bugged by similarities. I tested the demo on my eMac, 1.25 GHz, 512 MB memory with the graphics turned down. Gameplay was great. (Version 1.0) |
