DESCRIPTION

ClamXav is a free virus checker for Mac OS X. It uses the tried, tested and very popular ClamAV open source antivirus engine as a back end.

I hope you like and use ClamXav a lot and that it helps keep you and your friends/colleagues virus-free. Although I'm providing ClamXav for free, I am increasingly spending more and more time developing it and would really appreciate if you would consider making a donation please. All donations (no matter how small) are gratefully received and would be a huge incentive to help me work on future versions of ClamXav, but more importantly I rely on donations to pay for my bandwidth costs. Please consider it, see the ClamXav homepage, click the 'More Information' link above on this page.

  • Fixed the notorious "something unexpected happened" bug in Sentry.
  • Improved stability in ClamXav Sentry during scans and after waking from sleep.

JRWILSONSR  I had been using an older version of ClamXav (2.01) and noted it was no longer starting up (it looked like it but was not). I downloaded the newest version 2.03 215.

Now it won't scan and gives me an error message "immediately" to a folder that no longer exists relating to where viruses had been kept with 2.01.

The Message is: ERROR: '"/Volumes/OneTouch4/Virus for ClamXav/"' doesn't exist or is not a directory

It then shuts down...

Thoughts anyone?

EUG  I had the same problem after doing the same upgrade as you.

Solution (lucky guess, worked for me): unistall the program completely - I used AppCleaner for that. Re-install and it should work.

My guess, there's some incompatibility in the old plist.

CHUCKK  I think this is a nice update (especially while running Tiger on a G4). From a performance standpoint this new version seems significantly faster. Especially when starting some new activity. Download of daily updates and starting new scan happen very quickly as opposed the older version that had a significant delay (many time more than a minute).

The interface is more "mac" like, much nicer eye candy.

So far seem stable.

Resource hogging appears to be better with this version, still not very good but definitely moving in the right direction.

XPLICIT  Quite an interesting approach to label a beta release with a normal version number.

GBBOB  This is a great program and of corse you cannot beat the price. BUT, it is a CPU HOG. When Clam Sentry is running in the background, it eats anywhere from 60 to 85% of the CPU and I am running a 2 gig G5 Tower with 3 gigs of RAM. It even causes my Mac to momentary freeze when i am in zoom mode and I hate turning it off because it has found malware and other software on my Mac that i did not download. The program does work well but it is just too much of a CPU pig. I went to Activity Monitor and it was at the top of the list eating 60 to 85% of the CPU load. I know the app is free and is even used in LCC and SLCC but there has to be a way to reduce the CPU demand. Please fix this major flaw in what could be a great virus software. End of Line...

YOUNKINT  2.0.1 crashing every time. Removed engine and ALL related ClamXav files, including cache files and prefs. Reinstalled everything. No dice. Still crashing every app start. 10.5.8 PPC QuickSilver and 10.5.8 PPC PowerBook. Both well maintained.

TRANCE  must uncheck both the checkboxes in the logfiles for it to work or you get errors like:

"Problems with internal logger

Can't open Library?logs/clamXav-scan.log in append mode (check permissions!)"

Scan Ended Unexpectedly. Error num: 62"

It also crashes one out of every two times you start a scan
