So elegraphy, tell me how all that can be interpreted in any other way, than several people saying that what DownloadComment does, is automatically done in OS 10.4? Hence my question.

Of course, xxxciter clouds the issue by including a link to a utility that does essentially what DownloadComment does, instead of proving that OS 10.4 does it all by itself.

REAL_MACINFO  One thing that regular Safari 3 on 10.4.x doesn't do:

If you drag&drop a file (e.g. an image) to your finder it doesn't add the download path to the file comment.

With DownloadComment Installed it does!

SJK  Copying/moving items across volumes, rebuilding the Spotlight index, and other actions will remove that "Where from" (kMDItemWhereFroms) metadata. Information in the Spotlight (Finder) comment field that DownloadComment uses is stored in .DS_Store files. Both methods are fragile, but kMDItemWhereFroms more than .DS_Store (IMO).

ANONYMOUS  But FF is supposed to be cross-platform, and the file comments in this case are Mac-specific. I know there are features (no, I'm NOT affiliated with the Mozilla team in any way) people want to see in FF/Mozilla on their specific platform, but without getting into Camino, that probably means they'd have to have separate teams working on versions for each platform.
