DESCRIPTION

NeoOffice is a fully-featured set of office applications (including word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, drawing, and database programs) for Mac OS X. Based on the OpenOffice.org office suite, NeoOffice has integrated dozens of native Mac features and can import, edit, and exchange files with other popular office programs such as Microsoft Office. Unlike the Mac OS X release of OpenOffice.org, NeoOffice does not require the X11 windowing system.

Released as free, open-source software under the GNU General Public License (GPL), NeoOffice is fully functional and stable enough for everyday use. The software is actively developed, so improvements and small updates are made available on a regular basis.

Please consider donating to the NeoOffice project, see the link below on this page.

WHAT'S NEW
Version 2.2.3 patch 3: New Media Browser, native floating tool windows, and trackpad magnify and swipe features. To ensure that these new features are thoroughly tested before NeoOffice 2.2.4 is released, these new features are available right now in NeoOffice 2.2.3 Patch 3 for users running Mac OS X 10.4 or later.
REQUIREMENTS
Mac OS X 10.4 or later.

RATTUS  I'm a student currently trying to wean myself off MS Office by running NeoOffice and the Aqua beta of OpenOffice.

I must say, I'm pleased with Neo: it seems more stable (both MS and Open have wigged out on me) and the little touches like nice menu and file icons are cool.

I hope NeoOffice keeps updating once OpenOffice Aqua comes out of beta. I think it will be a similar situation as it is with Firefox and Camino. The multiplatform version is great but the mac-specific version is nicer :-)  (Version 2.2.3 patch 3)

WEBGODJJ  I have been using NeoOffice for years and am quite happy with it. Speed is a real issue, however, and this is because it's a Java application.

The real question is how will NeoOffice compete now that Open Office (what this is developed upon) is now going to be native OSX program. They already have a beta out!  (Version 2.2.3 patch 2)

BEBDABHRHBRWEFG 3R§5Y5H4WTEDSFB  hmmm... it kind of 'does what it says on the tin' and the [small] development team should be congratulated for building something that works this well in a microsoft office dominated environment - and for giving it away free.

however, i still can't bring myself to really like neooffice. like all OSX java based apps, it just feels too slow and clunky and windows-like for me to get any pleasure from using it.

i also wonder what neooffice's future is likely to be, given that apple are now busy removing java as an option from their developer tools.   (Version 2.2.3)
