SoundDog is a simple QuickTime-based AppleScript droplet that acts as a sound inspector. It is designed to be placed in your folder toolbar so that you can quickly drag any sound item onto it to hear playback and view a detailed description of the file.

Download the .dmg and then drag the application to anywhere on your startup volume. For use in Finder window toolbars merely drag the application into the Finder toolbar, it will then appear in all (metal) Finder windows. Simply command-drag or control-click on the icon to remove it from your toolbars.

Works great so far here on my dual 1.25 G4 on 10.3.4. Even works properly on 24 bit 48kHz files. It doesn't recognise or play split stereo files properly (it does them one after the other) but hey, it's free!
