FreeDMG is one of the most powerful and easy to use disk imaging program available for Mac OS X. With this software it is possible to quickly perform disk imaging on the fly. Both the program's window, and the dock icon can be used for drag-and-drop imaging. There many image formats that that can be chosen (UDZO, UDCO, etc.). FreeDMG can make internet enabled disk images for distribution to Macs as well as ISO/Joliet hybrid images for cross-platform delivery. Verbose preferences, and a built-in log window help users hide/display additional information about the imaging process.
Gain easy access to the many options available for creating and manipulating disk images in Mac OS X with FreeDMG. From the hidden "resize" function of hdiutil to the adjustable compresion levels available for the UDZO format, this software attempts to unveil it all. Users have the option to overwrite exising files, and can choose to quit the program automatically after creating an image on launch. It is possible to encrypt images (password protect) with the click of a button.
With FreeDMG you can attach beautiful html/rtf software license agreements to disk images. This software is currently the best way to add SLAs to disk images for multi-lingual distribution. The license creation process in FreeDMG prevents character loss for all 2-byte languages.
Removed "Create from Device" option under Images menu (was causing crashing in 10.6)
Checks for empty volume/device array before updating menus in "-menuNeedsUpdate" method (was crashing on launch when run on 10.4/10.6 machines)
REQUIREMENTS
Operating system:
• Mac OS X v.10.4.x-10.6.x
Optional requirements:
• Xcode tools must be installed to attach SLAs to images.
• Xcode v.3.2 required to attach SLAs to images in Snow Leopard.
• Mac OS X v.10.5.2 or higher is required to use encryption in Leopard
(encryption works normally in all versions of 10.4).
FRANCOLA Nice program, but when I click on something else and FreeDMG loses focus, I get this http://img527.imageshack.us/img527/2168/picture2ds1.png (Version 0.5.5b)
EDDIE_KELLEY This problem was related to window size settings. Either removing preferences, or re-sizing the window may solve issues carried across from older versions of FreeDMG. (Version 0.5.5b)

APPLEDOGX Really does create a dmg file easily. The only thing really missing is the ability to include a background image for the dmg window and hide the image file on the dmg. (Version 0.5.4b)
EDDIE KELLEY The Web Server running at www.kelleycomputing.net is using a "performance cache". This allows the server to provide clients on the internet a cached version of the web page, without having to read from disk. This speeds up the browsing experience in some cases.
The reason little snitch was complaining, was because the port 16080 is used (instead of port 80). Little Snitch is telling you this because you have not chosen to trust connections using that port yet.
More information can be found by googling "web performance cache 16080". (Version 0.5.3b)

PIAKO Yeah, so this program works good. :D The preferences are fairly advanced it seems. Still a little buggy. I would be willing to pay $5.00 to $10.00 for this application. Thanks for the ease of read-only volume creation. :) I use the create from volume function a lot to back up my CDs! (Version 0.5.4b)
EDDIE KELLEY There was a small bug in the initial release of FreeDMG 0.5.2b. The issue has been corrected (via silent update). The software will no longer crash on launch.
Thanks to everyone for their promt and informative feedback!
It crashes when I go to (Images) and click (Create from Device. (Version 0.5.2b)

ANONYMOUS FreeDMG is also crashing immediately on my machine (G5, running 10.2.8). Too bad it's happening with this version; all the ones before have been troublefree. Back to the drawing board on this one, I'm afraid. (Version 0.5.2b)

GUNTIS Today I upgraded my PB 15" to 10.4.2 and then downloaded FreeDMG (for the first time, to try it). But I cannot even open it - it crashes immediately... Probably something to do with the OS X 10.4.2 updated components... (Version 0.5.2b)
