THUS.SPAKE.Z  Stated requirements for Safari 4.04 for Tiger requires OS 10.4.11 and Security Update 2009-002 or later. Available from Apple's Mac OS X software site. Just type in the Security Update that you want in the search window there.

TIMMYB  What I am saying is that Apple should be consistent in their update policy.

They skipped a very important security update for Tiger (the recent 2009-006) but then released this new version of Safari 4.0.4.

It creates the impression that Tiger is still supported, when in-fact it is not (and continuing to Surf the web with Safari 4.0.4 is NOT SAFE)

TIMMYB  I really don't understand why Apple made this version available for systems prior to 10.5.x

This creates the impression that it is ok to use Safari on a 10.4.x system.

Unfortunately, this is not the case, since Apple did not release a Security Update 2009-006 for 10.4.

10.4.x now has several unpatched vulnerabilities which make it unfit for use.

GAZMAN  It's because Webkit, the engine that powers Safari, is a major system component.

I don't get this notion of people getting their nickers in a knot when a system update requires a restart - simply hold off on updating until a time when you can restart.

FALKNERX  Leave it to Apple to require a system restart via Software Update for a minor Safari update.

ODYSSEUS  The update involves underlying frameworks (used by other apps as well) that require a restart.

DEMORAY  MacUpdate:

In "Editor Notes" you state that "Download Now" will yield the Leopard version.

That is incorrect. "Download Now" yields the Snow Leopard version.
