DESCRIPTION
AppleJack is a user friendly troubleshooting assistant for Mac OS X. With AppleJack you can troubleshoot a computer even if you can't load the GUI, or don't have a startup CD handy. AppleJack runs in Single User Mode and is menu-based for ease of use.

Using AppleJack, you can repair your disk, repair permissions, validate the system's preference files, and get rid of possibly corrupted cache files. In most cases, these operations can help get your machine back on track. The important thing is that you don't need another startup disk with you. All you need to do is restart in Single User Mode (SUM), by holding down the command and s keys at startup, and then typing applejack, or applejack auto (which will run through all the tasks automatically), or applejack auto restart (which will also restart the computer automatically at the end of the process).

WHAT'S NEW
Version 1.5:
  • Leopard compatibility! (Thanks Steve Anthony!)
  • Improved console output suppression from launchd processes.
  • Improved the process of finding valid user directories, drawing on netinfo, /etc/passwd, and /Users directory as needed. Users can now be chosen by user id or user name, as well as the old method of entereing the home directory.
  • Logging is more complete
REQUIREMENTS
Mac OS X 10.4 - 10.5 or later.

DKLAWLESS  AJ Users (all thousands of you),

Having used this application for years I can recall numerous times that this untility has save me countless hours of work. I just visited the developers site to find out he is in the same pinch as he was with the move to OS10.5. He is strapped for money to develop the update to Snow Leopard .

Listed as FREEWARE he will accept donations. Please consider a donation to help him. It won't take much to fund a solution. EX: an external hard drive and Snow Leopard. The link is: .

NATE K  I just tried it in Snow Leopard. Everything appeared to run properly, with the exception of permissions repair.

DONMONTALVO  When you have several dozen MacBook Pro users traveling the world, and remote offices without local support staff, this is one essential tool.

JOSELU  AppleJack is finally back!!

I've long been waiting for an update to work with Leopard and it's finally here! I just installed and tried running "applejack auto restart" on my 1.33GHz iBook G4 and it works flawlessly as it used to on 10.4.

Big shout out to the developer! THANK YOU!

SOUNDFREAK  This soft actually fixed my boot volume, where Onyx and Apple Disk Utility failed.

This is a great piece of soft !! A MUST-HAVE that should be included in any OS X machine.

Thanks !!

KRYSIA  This is a small, fabulous, and indispensable piece of software. It repaired what Onyx could not. It repaired what Apple's Disk Utility could not. It repaired what Apple's Disk Utility could not from a different startup (original) disk could not.

My disk is in the Green again, and it was so incredibly easy to do. Followed their instructions.

After initial restart, Safari had odd behaviors: I'd click the X to close a tab & nothing would happen. I'd go to push the scrollbar up or down after just doing so, & it wouldn't work unless I clicked on its background first. However, their instructions in the read-me file stated there might be some weirdness, and that a restart of the computer should fix it. I restarted, and *knock wood* so far, zero problems. Ran Onyx; needed to repair disk. Ran Disk Utility from a startup disk, and this time, the one thing left that was wrong with it after Applejacking it was fixable. Disk Repaired. To be safe, I restarted one more time, ran Onyx, disk is fine. Hooray!

Very happy over here.

Definitely donated.
