DESCRIPTION

NoteAbilityPro is a professional music notation package for the Macintosh OS X operating system. Developed by Dr. Keith Hamel at the University of British Columbia, it is easily the most sophisticated music notation software available on any platform. NoteAbility combines both musical intelligence and graphical flexibility in a direct and intuitive graphical user interface. Notate anything from simple melodies to complex avant garde orchestral music, play the score on your MIDI synthesizer or using Quicktime Musical Instruments and print a publishable copy of your score on any OS X compatible printer.

If you have been frustrated by the awkwardness and inflexibility of other notation programs, or by the time it takes to learn them, then you definitely should have a look at NoteAbility Pro.

The demo version of NoteAbilityPro is a complete working copy of the program with some functions disabled. You are not allowed to save files, copy or export in certain formats, and printing is restricted to the first page only. Just follow the simple installation notes, and the OS X Installer application will ensure that all required files are installed into the correct locations.

STEPHGAUTHIER  I was encouraged to use this application by a well-meaning educator who was a friend of the developer. The strength of the program is it's attempt to facilitate the composition of avant-garde classical material. However, as a composer who has used other notation programs such as Sibelius and Finale extensively, I can't strongly enough encourage anybody searching for a notation application to take a closer look at either Sibelius and/or Finale. Both are very popular with professional composers and arrangers as well as with music students and educators. Both Finale and Sibelius offer so many features and possibilities that really deserve an in depth explanation. I encourage you to go to their respective websites, read reviews, and talk to musicians that use those programs to find out more. To put things bluntly, in my own experience, anything accomplished in Notability Pro can be accomplished much easier and more efficiently in Sibelius or Finale. Also, Finale and Sibelius offer many features that you won't find in Notability. Price-wise, if you are a educator or student, Finale and Sibelius are offered at a dramatically reduced price. If your notation needs are relatively simple, their are some quality online free notation programs out there. DETINUX  Hi!

Actually, the program is very intuitive! After playing a few hours with it, you can do anything you want. The screenshot is outdated. The newer version has a cleaner lay-out. You should give it a try!

You can download the demo version if you want. Please mail me when you need some help.

Best wishes,

Martijn

KRIS  Try looking at Encore, from GVox.com.

It's more intuitive. But remeber, they're all kinda costly unless you're a student or educator.
