DESCRIPTION

Namely is possibly the fastest way to open applications. And unlike some other launchers, it doesn't require any learning.

You simply activate it using your preferred keyboard shortcut, start typing part of an application's name and see a list of matches as you type. Most of the time, one or two letters are enough. In fact, Namely learns your habits and makes your most-used apps even quicker to access over time. It's basically Spotlight for applications, only much faster, and highly addictive.

WHAT'S NEW
Version 2.5.1:
  • Time Machine backups of applications are now automatically excluded.
  • Moving the mouse over an application in the list will once again show its path in a tooltip.
  • Namely now ensures it's fully visible on your screen when launched.
  • Remade the application icon to include high-resolution versions.
  • Updated the appearance of the buttons for adding and removing excluded paths in the Preferences panel.
  • The Preferences panel now has appropriate minimum height and width.
Version 2.5:
  • Note: this version requires Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard. A version for Mac OS X 10.3.9 or 10.4 is available at http://amarsagoo.info/namely.
  • Namely now works properly with Spaces in Leopard.
  • Launched applications should now correctly be brought to the front in Leopard.
  • Keyboard shortcuts other than the function keys should now be correctly displayed on British keyboard layouts.
  • The Escape key is now shown as "esc" when chosen as a keyboard shortcut.
  • Updated the graphite colour preset to match the look in Leopard.
REQUIREMENTS
Mac OS X 10.5 or later.

RSNYDER6  I love the light footprint and speed. This is particularity useful for less powerful machines.

I used Dock Doder ( http://foggynoggin.com/dockdodger ) to hide the dock icon (it removed it from the command-tab switching menu (whatever that is called) also.

XENOPHILE  This app is the cat's meow.

If only Apple could somehow incorporate it into Mac OS X...

DRDUL  My dock's getting full! A request to the developer: can you make Namely a pref pane, and lose the dock icon?

DRDUL  A quick tip in case the dock icon is bothering anyone else... It can be easily removed with Dock Dodger. This is with OS X 10.5.7.

ELDRITCH  This little app is pure simplicity and works like a dream. No clutter, no fuss and no go slow, like some application launchers out there. Intuitive, and easy, the whole process becomes second nature very quickly.

PETER DA SILVA  Why have two versions for Tiger and Leopard? It's not that hard to make code conditional depending on the version.

QUBEX  Namely is always the first utility I install on any Mac.

HAL0THANE  I've been using Namely for a year and a half. For me, the lightweight functionality of Namely works better than the Swiss army knife-like features of Quicksilver.

The new version for Leopard fixes the issues I had experienced with Namely. I still consider Namely a cornerstone of my Mac experience, replacing Spotlight almost entirely.

WCITYMIKE  I'm pretty sure Leopard now does this natively.
