DESCRIPTION
Countdown... Sometimes you just gotta wait for something to happen. You keep waiting and waiting. And finally you realize that you are to late. The train left, your class started, or your cake is now a burnt, inedible biscuit. With Countdown, you'll never have to eat a crunchy cake again! Countdown is a simple, efficient timer that puts the countdown in a very accessible place: in your status bar. You can easily tell at a glance how much time is left. Best of all, it's free!

DARTH BROOKS  Handy little countdown timer -- not perfect because it occasionally quits or fails to launch unexpectedly -- but nevertheless my timer of choice because of its unobtrusiveness. Thanks.

DBRENNAN  While I note STERNHAMMER's comments I, nevertheless, maintain my opinion of this program.

To give that reviewer the benefit of any doubt I, once again, executed a download. While earlier versions did, indeed, download and perform in a wholly inadequate manner, this particular version fails to function whatsoever!

STERNHAMMER  Contrary to DBRENNAN I think this little application is perfectly respectable and very effective (and I've tried all the titles mentioned). I like the control it affords for easily setting timers seconds, minutes or even years in advance.

It has some quirks and there are refinements needed:

- selecting "Show main window" from the menu bar menu doesn't bring the app to the front which makes it a little pointless.

- the time format can be changed but can't be reset to the "factory default". (In fact I can't seem to restore it at all, maybe after a reboot... or else I'll have to hunt down the prefs file and kill it.)

- it definitely needs an option to suppress the dock icon for long-term use and convenience.

- it would be ideal if the the dock and menu bar icons showed the current time, after all they are clock-like. I realise this wasn't intended as a clock replacement but it's unfortunate that it creates on-screen clocks that are wrong most of the time (i.e. whenever it's not 12:07).

DBRENNAN  There are far better timer systems. Look at Minuteur, Dock Timer or Until if you want a dock-applied manifestation. Or Tiny Alarm in the

menu bar, otherwise. All, or a combination thereof, knock the crap out of this!

ANONYMOUS  nice and simple, except: why in both dock AND menu bar? at least the option of one or the other!

ANONYMOUS  Any chance of an option that lets it do the countdown in the dock instead?

ANONYMOUS  You might look at DockTimer.

ANONYMOUS  I'm of the opposite opinion. The icon looks more than ok. Of course, one can spend hours and even more hours on perfecting minor details like icons, but the importance lies more in the product itself.

Regarding OSX icons, I think that, as long as it isn't a pixelated bitmap icon from the past (i.e. OS9 and lower), I'm satisfied. Remember that this is a free app and the developer might not have the resources to spend on perfecting icons..
