DESCRIPTION

Mine Swept is your basic game of Minesweeper where you have this field of squares and when you click on one, it will tell you one of two things: that you just revealed a mine (at which point, it's game over) or how many mines surround this particular square. Armed with this information, you then go forth and determine which squares in this field of squares are not hiding a mine.

This project came about because I was unhappy with all the other Minesweeper offerings for OSX out there. So rather than complain endlessly about them, I decided to write my own and get exactly what I wanted in a Minesweeper game.

Note: It says the minimum requirements is 10.3 or later but I only say that because I don't have a 10.2 machine to test it on. Please feel free to try it out if you have Jaguar installed and let me know how it plays. Just remember that I can't guarantee that it won't permanently damage your machine (not that I think that there's anyway it could but I still have to say it, nonetheless).

    VTAGLE  Hello,

The file you downloaded is a zip archive so all you need to do to get the files inside is double-click it. Your Mac should handle the rest from there. Please e-mail me directly if you have anymore problems via

MACSMILEY.JR  The game doesn't "get killed" when you switch to another window/app. It just pauses the timeclock.

Pick up the game where you left off by pressing Command-P

    (no, it doesn't print)

PINK PANTHER  I like it a lot. Getting bored after a while though, but who cares... Two mini-bugs:

    1. It keeps telling me that I have set a new time record. Nothing to do with reality, but very good for my ego...

    2. Game gets killed when switching momentarily to something else...

NIK  I have been searching all night for a minesweeper game and this one is undoubtedly the best minesweeper game availiable for Mac OS. The graphics are crisp and beutiful, and it has delightful sounds. well done, my search has come to a delightful end! :-)

RAY  Excellent! I've tried many and this is the best minesweeper game I've seen for Mac OS, perhaps even better than the original Windows version. Smooth graphics and sound, easy to play. I only wish that you could customize sounds and appearance. That would be cool! Also, I would like the ability to enter names and dates along with the Best Times for us competitive types who like to keep records.

STANLEY  Yeah, I'm not so sure I'd be as generous as Ray. It IS a good-looking, clean minesweeper. But somehow, it doesn't quite get to where the old OS9 Mac Minesweeper was at. Not sure why, but the game play seems much slower... I've been clocking shameful times on it. Is it the key shortcuts? A double-click takes twice as long as a click... I don't know.

It's a great attempt and just might need some tweaking. It certainly looks and feels much better than anything I've seen out there for OS X -- just doesn't quite PLAY well enough. My guess is the keyboard shortcuts.

Maybe the way to go might be to allow user configuration?

I LOVE the clean minimalism, I WANT this to be the King of Mac OS X Minesweepers. I just wish it was. Maybe it is...

VINCE  I'd love to make this version of Minesweeper better than it is. What kind of tweaks do you think would make it better? I wasn't able to quite piece together what you wanted but if you e-mail me with your comments, I'd be happy to try and integrate them into a new release.

CORY DISSAPOINTED  i tried to run it on OS 10.2.8 and it 'unexpectedly quit' upon launch, repeatedly and relentlessly. once i update my OS i'll give it another go, but until then i'll be bumming games off my friend's laptop or playing online. fanatically. so it goes.

ANONYMOUS  Well, like I said in my notes, I don't have a 10.2.x machine to test it on. However, if you run the Console app (located in your Applications/Utilities folder) and send me the data from the crash log, I'd be happy to work with you (or anyone for that matter) to track down the problem.
