DESCRIPTION
Boinx FotoMagico lets you create professional slideshows from your photos and music with just a few, simple mouse clicks. It sports a very clean and intuitive yet powerful user interface. High image quality, fast performance, and user flexibility were some of the design goals for this application.
Create the most spectacular slideshows:
- Scale, move, rotate, zoom or pan around your images to highlight that part that matters the most.
- Your slides fit together perfectly with the new, gorgeous transitions.
- Provide more meaning with subtle titles here and there.
Perform a breathtaking show:
- Your slideshow uses the best possible resolution of your presentation device.
- Use large displays, HDTV screens and other high resolution devices.
- Even on a VGA projector, your photos will look better with FotoMagico.
Your audience will want to take it home:
- Burn DVDs of your slideshow with iDVD or Roxio Toast.
- Put your slideshow on the new iPod.
- Export in almost any QuickTime format.
Your audience will never fall asleep again.
WHAT'S NEW
Version 3.0.8:
- Note: Screensavers cannot currently be used on Snow Leopard. They may still be created because they can be installed and used on Leopard (10.5).
- A memory leak that was discovered in 3.0.7 and previous versions should now be gone. This probably has an impact on a number of other bugs that were reported by users.
- Playback of movies should now exhibit less stuttering at beginning of long movies.
- Undo was broken in previous versions after adjusting the length of an audio item (by dragging an edge). This should now work correctly again.
- Dropping new images after the last slide should now work correctly again.
- Bugfixes to make opening of some files more robust.
- Made MobileMe login in Sharing Assistant more secure. Illegal characters in account name are now stripped out.
- Support for page up/down and b key during playback enables the use of Keyspan remotes.
- Internal changes to prepare for upcoming features.
- Various small fixes.
REQUIREMENTS
- Mac OS X 10.5 or later
- G5 or Intel processor
- 128MB video card

VISKWAL I currently have Fotomagico Pro 2 (and also iStopmotion and BoinxTV). I normally don't mind upgrade fee's, as long as they seem justified. What I do mind in this case is that the upgrade price for Express2 to Pro3, is equal to Pro2 to Pro3. This is ripping people off. I already payed an upgrade a while ago to go to Pro, the upgrade from Pro2 to Pro3 should be less expensive. Furthermore, the feature I found lacking the most in version 2 are titles. They are just way to limited for my use. In version 3 they are still as lacking as ever, no improvement. Improved flexibility in titles would have been my only interest in upgrading. And lastly about the Boinx company. Last year I was working to a very tight deadline with iStopmotion. I had crash after crash, and was unable to complete my job with this piece of software (there is another excellent stopmotion software on os x I then found out). All Boinx applications have an internal crash reporter. I submitted 8 crash debugging reports through their tool, and also 4 e-mails (in case their own crash reporter didn't work) to support explaining the situation. Not once have I been contacted to see what my problem was, not once ! I'm not saying their software is bad, I'll asume it was user error and/or something funky on my laptop, but after 12 contact-attempts one would expect at least a note of decency saying, "sorry we were busy, we could not help you", but not even an apology. Boinx have proven me what they are worth, and it's none of my money any more. Other people may have other experiences, but saddly I see them as a greedy company from now on. (Version 3.0.1)

PICON Boinx can royally kiss my A** for their upgrade policy. It should be worth more having a pro license than a home one, yet they want to charge $89 to upgrade from either. I understand developers need to eat, etc., and I am willing to pay an upgrade fee, but having spent extra money upgrading my version 2 home to pro about a year ago and then seeing this, I'm totally stunned. For version 2 pro owners, the upgrade fee should be more like $49 to get version 3 pro and $89 for version 2 home owners. This I could understand and would be willing to pay. As it stands, no way! Much better deal for version 2 home owners or for that matter version 1.x anything. Here is hoping that someone from Boinx sees this and perhaps comes to their senses (...I mean changes their upgrade policy to make it fair to former pro users) because I do like their software. PICON One more thing: To point out how skewed their upgrade policy is, one only has to take a look at their pricing model. It is cheaper to upgrade from version 2 home to version 3 pro than to upgrade version 3 home to version 3 pro ??? WTF. At first, it looked like it should be cheaper buying the version 3 home version for $29, and then upgrading to pro for $89. To circumvent this, Boinx made upgrading from version 3 home to Pro $120. FREDASH I second all of this comment. FotoMagico is a good product that i use regularly. But as a previous 2.X PRO User who paid the PRO price, i totally disagree with the Boinx FotoMagico upgrade policy that makes EXPRESS users effectively paying LESS than PRO users to upgrade to new 3.X PRO Licence ! So, I will wait for a moficiation of the 2.X PRO --> 3.X PRO licence price. (Version 3.0)

FLORIAN-MUC A few things to consider: - FotoMagico 2.0 came out in March 2007. Version 3.0 is the first paid update after more than 2 years. - FotoMagico had a lot of free major 2.x feature updates since then and will continue to do so in the 3.x frame. - There is a grace period. If you bought FotoMagico in the last 60 days the update will be free for you. - We discontinued the Express flavour in version 3 and introduced an even more affordable Home flavour. As we do honor our Express users we offer them a reduced upgrade price to version 3 Pro. Boinx Software. (Version 3.0)

MONTY LEE Boinx is not getting the picture and probably won't. They have seemingly dismissed all the Pro users out there with the expensive upgrade policy--regardless of any "future" improvements or additions to the product. The issue is the cost to upgrade from 2 Pro to 3 Pro, and they just don't seem to get it. I won't be upgrading. (Version 3.0)

SID3 Sad but true - as much as I like FotoMagico Pro, I won't be upgrading to version 3 until Boinx does something to that ridiculous update-pricing-scheme for previous Pro-users: 39 $ would be a reasonable pricing for the upgrade, but definitely not 89 $. I guess Boinx will be losing a lot of loyal customers it they're gonna stick to their original upgrade-scheme. (Version 3.0)

CURLYPAWS It cost a lot to upgrade from 2 Home/Express to the 2 Pro version. I can't understand how Boinx feel that this shouldn't entitle existing Pro users to a lower upgrade price than someone who never paid the extra for the 2 Pro version. Sadly I won't be upgrading. (Version 3.0)

TYPOGRAPHICA Extremely disappointed with the upgrade price for the Pro version. Fotomagico Pro is a nice product but it is not an everyday piece of software like Photoshop. For those who use it regularly it is still a hard sell especially in this economic climate. Remember when Quark got greedy and arrogant guess what... InDesign was born. Hey Boinx! Please do not alienate your loyal customer base. Rethink your pricing structure. (Version 3.0.1)

FREDASH Hi, i totally agree with your point of view. you should write to Boinx and tell them what you think about their upgrade price policy. 89$ to upgrade is way too high. (Version 3.0.1)

CURLYPAWS Another FotoMagico 2 Pro user who is very unhappy about being stung for $89 to upgrade - the same price as someone with Fotomagico 1 or FotoMagico 2 Express (or the bundled Roxio version). A strange way to treat your customers - but sadly there seems to be no attempt on Boinx's part to correct this. (Version 3.0.4)

GROOVYDAVE The upgrade price is insane and consumers need to contact Boinx on their lack of respect to loyal customers. I have owned every version of iStopMotion and Fotomagico, as well as recently purchasing BoinxTV. I have paid for every upgrade on pro versions of the former apps. To continue to pay $89 for a pro upgrade of Fotomagico is absolutely outrageous. I, for one, will not pay it and have already sent them may feelings. (Version 3.0.1)

FREDASH That's exactly what i've done. I contacted them 2 weeks ago to tell them that their upgrade price for PRO users was way too high. I just won't upgrade until they change this price policy. (Version 3.0.1)

GRYPHONENT I also dropped them an email and complained. No reply though. Talking to a wall might prove more successful. (Version 3.0.2)

FREDASH And another FotoMagico 3.0 super hyper expansive upgrade version !!! :-D I recall that all the fools that bought the FotoMagico PRO 2.0 version (yes the 'PRO' one...) must now PAY the same price that the 'normal' Express verion users ! This is a steal and very POOR CONSIDERATION for their PRO users!!! VERY disapointed by their PRO upgrade price policy. (Version 3.0.3)

FISTER I responded to the 'update' message when I opened my Version 2 yesterday and downloaded the new Version 3.0, unaware that it was not a free update but an upgrade with a hefty pricetag. I was then nagged for my license key so I entered my Version 2 key which, of course, didn't work. Result: My older version was overwritten and now unusable (I'm digging around to see whether I have a backup somewhere). Boinx has not responded to my request for help restoring Version 2. Two thoughts: (1) Boinx should make it clear that updating is NOT free and spell out clearly the upgrade costs in the update/upgrade window, and (2) $89 is roughly $60 overpriced for an upgrade. EDIFIED I'm really bummed about the upgrade price structure. First off I only use FotoMagico like once or possibly twice a year. When I do use it it's usually in place of iMovie's pan & scan so I'd like to export to intermediate. Unfortunately the home version (2) doesn't let me do that. Additionally the express version (2) took a page out of quicktime's book and is NAGWARE with "pro-only" features. I could understand if it was free but I paid for it. $90 is a bit much to UPGRADE to a version that can export Quicktime or even just iMovie HD. Fotomagico is great software but it's pretty weak that you can't render your slideshow at-resolution in the home version. I'm assuming that version 3 home is still Nag-Ware although I'm not going to cough up the upgrade fee to find out since there is no way to upgrade 2 Express to 3 Home and $90 is a bit much. Please just let the home version export to quicktime. (Version 3.0.1)
