AKANICO Tried that new version and have to admit it is still the most complete mp3 tag editor software out there. It sure ain't pretty and even have an 'old school' look but it's not that important anyway. What seems to be a bug to me though, with the media scrubber window after editing tracks (nice to change several fields at once now), it does not refresh infos. The only way to see it is by removing tracks and putting them back. And that's annoying.. (Version 3.4.3)

SIDDHARTHA This is a great product. What little problem I had was quickly solved by the developer (including when I wasted his time by my mistake with version numbers/passwords). Highly recommended-if you have any MP3 files on your system, you can use this! (Version 3.3.1)

VERYCARLA I haven't upgraded yet, but I'm planning on it soon. I do have a question for the devs: Do you ever plan to incorporate support for Apple's ID3v2.4 tags? It would be so, so sweet if I could do the sort of batch tagging I need to do to fill in the Sort by... tags without having to resort to a kludgy (and slow) applescript as I do now. If this support is already present, can you tell me how to access it? Many thanks! (Version 3.2)

JASON GILES yes it alreaady supports v2.4. you just need to set it as the tag version to write out in the tool you are using. note that only the latest itunes supports synch-safe tags. you can set this option to use synch-safe tags in the preferences of Media Rage. (Version 3.3)

I'm not sure what you mean by "sync safe" tags. I enabled the option in Media Rage 3.3.1 but I don't see any extended options. Thanks for your help! (Version 3.3.1)

JASON GILES some tools (e.g. the Convert Filenames to Data) don't allow you to specify a tag version; in these cases it will just use whatever tag version is in the file. other tools (e.g. Data Changer), allow you to explicitly set the tag version. in those cases, just choose version 2.4. if you want all your tags to be 2.4, you can use the Data Changer to change all your tags to a specific version provided no other data options are set. LEO SPILL Not worthy of a whole point increase - From 2.6 to 3.0 ? Seems a dubious way to fleece existing users out of some more dosh. It's big n' clunky, no operation is simple or straight forward and you still can't make 'drop-lets' or automator actions. This apps CM is very basic just compare with Mr.Doerner's MP3-Info CMM: http://www.cdfinder.de/mp3info/ Very un-Mac like, over weighed with too many useless functions and ugly design - Please, Mac developers make a sweet and elegant media tag editor ! So this can be rested - indefinitely. (Version 3.0)

JASON GILES 'Fleece existing users'? That's a bit harsh. We have given out 1.5 years of free updates of 2.0 - is not enough? We have to make a living too, and it takes time effort and money to develop products. Asking for a mere $9.95 doesn't seem like a lot, when users will receive many free updates of our products. And the 2.6 to 3.0 move was due to adding signficant new features that required investing time to develop, including Tool Chains and new tools. it is disappointing to have our hard work unappreciated. (Version 3.0)

PHATCACTUS Tool Chain alone is worth the $10, to make no mention of the other great new features and top-freakin'-notch tech support. The devs don't get nearl enough credit for this app. (Version 3.0.1)

WONDERING I've been a registered user of Media Rage 2.x for a while. I have been satisfied with its abilities and find it a worthy product. One of the things that I especially like about it is the finer control of tag information and updating that it allows, in contrast to the more limited options within iTunes. It also allows tag editing of music tracks whether they are in iTunes or not. The developer seems to be a generally a responsive guy, and has implemented several of my suggestions on improvements. (Version 3.0.1)

VERYCARLA While I confess I'm no fan of paid upgrades, in Media Rage's case I'd say it's worth it. (Version 3.2)

TUFTY Useful but a bit pricey. (Version 2.6)

TREBEJO The claim for FLAC support is not clear to me. I drop flac files into the various media rage toolboxes and it doesn't do anything with them. The "preferences" option does not mention flac, and I have to blindly select mp3, or ogg, or who knows what. The toolboxes have checkboxes for id3v tags but nothing for flac. At the moment this is only good for formats that can also be handled within iTunes. (Version 2.2)

ARIEL Oh dear, Media Rage does indeed support flac, and does so without requiring any intervention from the user to recognize it. I got confused because the "Preferences" option does not explicitly mention .flac, but it mentions lots of other popular formats (e.g. mp3, m4a). So I thought I was supposed to put it somewhere among the listed categories and that screwed things up. I've asked the powers that be at macupdate to remove my erroneous critique. (Version 2.2)

METRIC152 Very good program. I used it to clean up my entire collection. Allows you to use FreeDB to tag your albums. Also allows you to use the filename to tag your mp3. Uses regular expressions so there is a learning curve to it. (Version 2.2)

FLARCH Rather nice, with the exception of a few quirks. I'd fork over the money right away if it had full MusicBrainz functionality instead of FreeDB. (Version 2.1.1)

WOULD SWITCH IF... Why not MusicBrainz instead of FreeDB? I've searched around the FreeDB site. It's chaos! Umpteen duplicates; incomplete information, poor organization. MusicBrainz has only one out-dated Mac Tagger with less functionality than the PC version but it gets good results because of the audio fingerprinting. (Version 2.1)

V05M4N Using 1.9.3 the freedb tagger doesn't get the entries I want. If a do a search, say Foo Fighters - Colour and Shape, I get no relevant hits, but the freedb has entries and moreover it works with the free TriTag. I must say when it does find an entry it works much better than TriTag. Let me know if this is fixed... (Version 2.0)
