AKANICO  Tried that new version and have to admit it is still the most complete mp3 tag editor software out there.

It sure ain't pretty and even have an 'old school' look but it's not that important anyway.

What seems to be a bug to me though, with the media scrubber window after editing tracks (nice to change several fields at once now), it does not refresh infos.

The only way to see it is by removing tracks and putting them back.

And that's annoying..

DOUG ENGELBART  The QuickEdit function for ID3 tags of MP3s is the only reason why I use Media Rage. And this works perfectly. DragNdrop, edit it, press Apple-S. Done. √ Pity that it's not freeware. ;—)

SHANE C SMITH  This is the only piece of software I use when editing my media files. With that being said I am very disappointed with the development of this software. There are a number of bugs that have been present since Version 3, one of which is making changes to files that are not recognized in iTunes. It's pretty hard to pinpoint the problem since it happens some of the time and only on certain fields. My latest experience was adding cover art, it's in the file but the system and itunes doesn't see it. Please fix this software or better yet make a new version 4.

JOBBY  "Account error: inactive"

So much for the download link — is there a mirror anywhere? The links on the developer's site go to the same place…

(As an aside, you'd think Apple would make a better looking failure page for mac.com than a couple of lines of monospaced text!)

SUNCHASER21  Media rage use to be good or so I thought. until i this aug, i started

to try to put id3 tages to my music, I was batch processing about 2000

songs.. media rage would crash EVERY SINGLE TIME.. restarted the

computer, i even thought well maybe it is something in my computer ,

something i installed that is having an issue with media rage..

Reinstall leopard 10.5.7 Still crashed.. new system nothing installed

other then, leopard and media rage.. Still crashing all the time.. did

about 200 files.. crashed. did about 50 , didn't crash, started

"Pinning" multi, files as in artist name, album title, id3 tages, and

album artwork so that it would be the same for all that album. well

everything was going fine, even thought it would not work with many

files,

The out come was that many id3 tages were broken, some COULD NOT BE

WRITTEN TO.. which is the biggest problem, it would do like 80% of the

tages correctly and then the rest it would not write anything to .. I

tried those songs that media rage could not write to, in itunes.. I

tunes wrote the tages correctly ..

Here is the really bad apart.. I have tried to contact there support

dept, 5 TIMES.. in 1 month asking why it is happening and how to fix

this.. NO ANSWER.. not one time did they send me back a reply.. there

support is nothing and i bought this.. what a waste of money.. REALLY

waste..

If you are looking to buy this app, PLEASE don't get mislead like i

did.. Really . NO SUPPORT.. crashes with big number of files, which you know is not so big of a deal but that it does not WRITE to every file is not so funny, to have to go look at every file for fear it did not write ever tag..i even tried writing to the file one by one.. opening a new window in media rage.. for each file that can not be written to ,nothing worked.. So I tried 2 other apps..

The first is like the bad media rage but much much more powerful, ( it

did crash also but not as much) it is called. "jaikoz" the other which

was simpler but worked great and cheaper and DID EVERY FILE.. 300, 3000 NO PROBLEM. no crashes.. was called. "ID3 Editor" the only problem i had was figuring out how to keep the lyrics in the songs,, for example if there were already written in my original music file. seems that ID3 Editor would not keep them or import them in..maybe was me.. but in the end.. i never did figure it out.. but it atleast wrote all the tags and never crashes.. MEDIA RAGES.. well i am sad i gave you my money, but be sure i will never use your product again.. compared to these to other apps..why would I. ?? check them both out before buying media rage..becauase i am sure i am not the only one having this problem with crashes or bad support. Hope this helps someone..

SIDDHARTHA  This is a great product. What little problem I had was quickly solved by the developer (including when I wasted his time by my mistake with version numbers/passwords).

Highly recommended-if you have any MP3 files on your system, you can use this!

VERYCARLA  I haven't upgraded yet, but I'm planning on it soon. I do have a question for the devs:

Do you ever plan to incorporate support for Apple's ID3v2.4 tags? It would be so, so sweet if I could do the sort of batch tagging I need to do to fill in the Sort by... tags without having to resort to a kludgy (and slow) applescript as I do now.

If this support is already present, can you tell me how to access it?

Many thanks!

JASON GILES  yes it alreaady supports v2.4. you just need to set it as the tag version to write out in the tool you are using. note that only the latest itunes supports synch-safe tags. you can set this option to use synch-safe tags in the preferences of Media Rage.

VERYCARLA  Hi there,

I'm not sure what you mean by "sync safe" tags. I enabled the option in Media Rage 3.3.1 but I don't see any extended options.

Thanks for your help!

JASON GILES  some tools (e.g. the Convert Filenames to Data) don't allow you to specify a tag version; in these cases it will just use whatever tag version is in the file. other tools (e.g. Data Changer), allow you to explicitly set the tag version. in those cases, just choose version 2.4. if you want all your tags to be 2.4, you can use the Data Changer to change all your tags to a specific version provided no other data options are set.

TREBEJO  The claim for FLAC support is not clear to me. I drop flac files into the various media rage toolboxes and it doesn't do anything with them.

The "preferences" option does not mention flac, and I have to blindly select mp3, or ogg, or who knows what.

The toolboxes have checkboxes for id3v tags but nothing for flac.

At the moment this is only good for formats that can also be handled within iTunes.

ARIEL  Oh dear, Media Rage does indeed support flac, and does so without requiring any intervention from the user to recognize it.

I got confused because the "Preferences" option does not explicitly mention .flac, but it mentions lots of other popular formats (e.g. mp3, m4a). So I thought I was supposed to put it somewhere among the listed categories and that screwed things up.

I've asked the powers that be at macupdate to remove my erroneous critique.

METRIC152  Very good program. I used it to clean up my entire collection. Allows you to use FreeDB to tag your albums. Also allows you to use the filename to tag your mp3. Uses regular expressions so there is a learning curve to it.
