DESCRIPTION
Have you ever wondered why the ATI video card that came with your Mac doesn't have the same features as the retail card? For years ATI has bundled software with their retail cards that adds features and extra capabilities. This software, known as "ATI Displays," is designed to only recognize and function with the retail version of the video card. These additional capabilities are withheld from OEM card owners even though, in most cases, the cards are nearly identical.

Radeon Enabler patches the ATI Displays application to allow it to recognize some OEM video cards. Once recognized, additional features like the OpenGL/3D overrides are "unlocked" and will function as if you have a retail card.

Radeon Enabler supports the following video cards:

 • OEM Radeon 9800 XT
 • OEM Radeon 9800 Pro
 • OEM Radeon 9700 Pro
 • OEM Radeon 9600 XT
 • OEM Radeon 9600 Pro
 • OEM Radeon 9000 Pro
 • OEM Radeon 8500
 • OEM Radeon 7500
 • OEM Radeon AGP (7200)
 • eMac Radeon 9200 graphics
 • eMac Radeon 7500 graphics
 • Radeon 9700 Mobility (Powerbook)
 • Radeon 9600 Mobility (Powerbook)
 • Radeon 9200 Mobility (iBook)
 • Radeon 9000 Mobility (Powerbook)
 • Radeon 7500 Mobility (Powerbook/iBook)
 • Radeon Mobility (Powerbook)
WHAT'S NEW
Version 1.1.1:
 • Added support for the OEM 9600XT/9800 XT shipping in the new G5's
 • Added support for the OEM Radeon AGP (7200)
 • Improved detection of missing or corrupted localization resources
 • Enhanced the support file generation to include more detailed information from the System Profiler

This version does not add any additional functionality for previously supported cards. If you have already used Radeon Enabler successfully for your chipset, there is no need to update to this latest version.

IMPORTANT

If you have already used a previous version of Radeon Enabler, you must reinstall the ATI Radeon Displays package before you can use a newer version of Radeon Enabler. Radeon Enabler will only recognize an original, unpatched installation.

REQUIREMENTS
Supported ATI graphics, Mac OS X 10.2.8 or later.

ETRACER  Radeon Enabler supports both the OEM 9600 Pro and XT - see the supported list in the porduct description or visit the radeon enabler site at http://www.radeonenabler.com

If you have the NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 Ultra (which was the standard card for the Dual 1.6 G5), then it's not supported (as it's not an ATI card).

ERESLENTO  You did not look very hard, apparently. I don't even need the software, yet I could find it in less than 5 minutes.

LARRY KLEIN  I find all the extensions, but they are grayed-out. There is no app called ATI Displays.

ETRACER  You need to download and install ATI Radeon Displays 4.2.5. Once you do that, you'll have the ATI Displays.app in /Applications/Utilities/ATI Utilities

Please read the readme file included with Radeon Enabler. It contains installation instructions and download links to the ATI Radeon Displays package.

ETRACER  The TV-out extension warning is normal - read the readme file or see the site [ http://www.radeonenabler.com/trouble.html ]

You should be able to configure 3D overrides, but not Advanced or TV-Out. Once again, read the readme file.

KNAPSTER  Just installed this on a Powerbook G4 and works perfectly. Now have optimum settings for Jedi Knight and it looks much smoother.

Put your mouse down and applaud the coder!

Many thanks!

AGALLISA  Ati Enabler works perfectly on my Dual G5 w/ ATI 9800. I am finally able to play games such as Max Payne and Warcraft with FSAA 8x and every other feature that I was previously locked out of.

HOBY  I personally don't have use for this (owning a retail radeon) but the fact that it was made is a great thing. Needless limitations and hobbling for the sake of profit on computer products should be thwarted whenever possible. I applaud efforts such as these.
