DOSBox is a DOS-emulator that uses the SDL-library which makes DOSBox very easy to port to different platforms. DOSBox has already been ported to many different platforms, such as Windows, BeOS, Linux, Mac OS X.
DOSBox also emulates CPU:286/386 realmode/protected mode, Directory FileSystem/XMS/EMS, Tandy/Hercules/CGA/EGA/VGA/VESA graphics, a SoundBlaster/Gravis Ultra Sound card for excellent sound compatibility with older games.
You can "re-live" the good old days with the help of DOSBox, it can run plenty of the old classics that don't run on your new computer.
DREAMKATCHA It seems to totally ignore any changes I make to the default DOSBox.Prefs file and doesn't recognise the 'conf' command when I try to remind the app where the config file is located.
After setting the frame skipping to 1 and increasing the CPU cycles I managed to run Command & Conquer at a reasonable speed on a Mac Mini 1.4ghz with 512mb RAM. (Version 0.65)
ANONYMOUS Amazingly promising. Runs Ultima Underworld without a hitch. Only problems with hooking it up with more conventional memory, so can't play the sequel (Version 0.63)
ANONYMOUS Works fine except for the characters. This just won't be the same as the keyboard. Example, when I type ":", it shows a ">". How can I solve that? (Version 0.63)
ANONYMOUS such a fantastic application, I really hope there will be an update with saves or macros...? so I don't have to keep mounting the same folder! (Version 0.63)
ANONYMOUS I have radnor and the sdl library installed. I have never really used dos, so I cannot figure out how to mount a cdrom rom. Any help? The dosbox website isnt very helpful. (Version 0.62)
SKYHORSE OK, I didn't realize at first that I needed Radnor to run on top of this: with it, I'm able to run my favorite DOS games after all...and they run on my 1GHz Emac with 750 megs of RAM with no noticeable slowdown in speed (they have motion and sound, but aren't FPS games, so speed isn't as critical). One of these games isn't the most stable going, but it ran with no glitches. I'm really pleased! (Version 0.61)
