DESCRIPTION

DOSBox is a DOS-emulator that uses the SDL-library which makes DOSBox very easy to port to different platforms. DOSBox has already been ported to many different platforms, such as Windows, BeOS, Linux, Mac OS X.

DOSBox also emulates CPU:286/386 realmode/protected mode, Directory FileSystem/XMS/EMS, Tandy/Hercules/CGA/EGA/VGA/VESA graphics, a SoundBlaster/Gravis Ultra Sound card for excellent sound compatibility with older games.

You can "re-live" the good old days with the help of DOSBox, it can run plenty of the old classics that don't run on your new computer.

WHAT'S NEW
Version 0.73:
  • Add two new opl2+opl3 emulators. (better speed, different implementation approach)
  • Improved DRO recording/better file structure.
  • Add EGA emulation.
  • Add special vga machine mode. Supports more of the exotic tricks like changing the palette during screen updates, 9x16 fonts etc.
  • much more - see http://sourceforge.net/project/shownotes.php?release_id=685514&group_id=52551
REQUIREMENTS

DREAMKATCHA  It seems to totally ignore any changes I make to the default DOSBox.Prefs file and doesn't recognise the 'conf' command when I try to remind the app where the config file is located.

After setting the frame skipping to 1 and increasing the CPU cycles I managed to run Command & Conquer at a reasonable speed on a Mac Mini 1.4ghz with 512mb RAM.

ANONYMOUS  Amazingly promising. Runs Ultima Underworld without a hitch. Only problems with hooking it up with more conventional memory, so can't play the sequel

ANONYMOUS   Works fine except for the characters. This just won't be the same as the keyboard. Example, when I type ":", it shows a ">". How can I solve that?

ANONYMOUS  It is fantastic and yet terribly slow.

How do I turn off sound? I've got a powerbook G4 and the sound here is worse than my Apple IIc.

I wish more info came with this program...

I hope there'll be an update...

I hope there'll be at least one menu option in the updated version...

Would be nice also, if you could click out of this window without having to cmd-tab all the time...(small thing)

ANONYMOUS  I tried to run the programme by double-click on the application. But nothing happens. I’ve got 10.3.6 and a Pismo G3 500MHz.

SKYHORSE  OK, I didn't realize at first that I needed Radnor to run on top of this: with it, I'm able to run my favorite DOS games after all...and they run on my 1GHz Emac with 750 megs of RAM with no noticeable slowdown in speed (they have motion and sound, but aren't FPS games, so speed isn't as critical). One of these games isn't the most stable going, but it ran with no glitches. I'm really pleased!
