DESCRIPTION
Wings 3D is a polygon mesh modeler inspired by Nendo and Mirai from Izware.

It is possible to assign materials, vertex color, UV coordinates and textures, but there will be improvements in those features before Wings goes 1.0.

WHAT'S NEW
  • Move|Region could crash if the selection contained faces that only shared a single vertex (and not any edge). Now a proper error message is given. Same correction for the Scale, Rotate, and Flatten commands operating on regions. (Thanks to optigon.) [bjorng]
  • Face mode area readout in the status bar would cause Wings to slow down if the the face contained too many vertices. Wings now only calculates the area for a face with less than 50 vertices. (Thanks to jdcooke1.) [optigon]
  • View|Frame would symmetrically frame elements when using the virtual mirror. Now there is an option, View|Frame Disregards Mirror, to alter this behaviour. (Thanks to extrudeface and Entity325.) [optigon]
  • New Feature: Face|Sweep/Sweep Region/Sweep Extract. Sweep is an interactive tool designed to make angled extrusions, while also allowing you to scale and rotate the extruded regions simultaneously. [optigon]
  • The Plug-In manager could crash or fail to provide information for certain (correctly written) plug-ins. (Thanks to optigon.) [bjorng]
  • New! German translation [contributed by Torsten Manz]
  • New Feature: Edge|Circularise. A plugin to flatten, equalise, and inflate an edge loop to its maximum or user specified diameter. Basic and Advanced menu options availble. [optigon]
  • Now using Erlang/OTP R12B-3. [bjorng]
REQUIREMENTS
Mac OS X 10.4 or later.

JETFIREDX  Wings is a great modeler that I have been using for years now. Don't let the UI put you off. Similar to Blender, tt is fully cross platform which is why it doesn't fit in to any OS. Unlike Blender, Wings' method of editing meshes doesn't take years to learn and years more to master. After learning the basics, enabling advanced options in the menus, and learning a few...repeat FEW hotkeys, I was off an running. Also, unlike Blender, all of Wings' buttons and windows work like any user would expect.

There are some great plugins that the community around Wings has created and the forums are great to post questions in.

A few notes: Wings doesn't do animation. A bummer, I know because I think its UI would be well suited to this task. Also, if you get a blank window with a title bar when you open it, just drag the window a small amount and it will refresh. (A small bug that seems to have crept in through recent builds.)  (Version 0.99.03)

JEFF LERCH  I do some programming in VRML and this program is tops for getting down some quick geometry to work with. However I do have to warn that it tends to leave around some extra geometry in it's wake. Not the cleanest but definetly the quickest. Now how about a duel binary?  (Version 0.98.26)

EVA  I have used Wings 3D for some months, together with Poser. It's the best non-commercial 3D-program I have come across. You can create good models from scratch or work with imported ones. The program is stabele and the documentation very good.  (Version 0.98.26)
