DESCRIPTION
CocoaBooklet lets you create a booklet out of a PDF file, it is a page imposition tool.
A booklet is book that is bound in the middle. Which means that a booklet has four pages printed on one sheet of paper (two on each sides). If you have for example a PDF file with 8 pages, you booklet will look like this:
- First sheet, first side: pages 8 and 1
- First sheet, second side: pages 2 and 7
- Second sheet, first side: pages 6 and 3
- Second sheet, second side: pages 4 and 5
The bottom line is that you simply print your booklet, staple it by the middle, fold it in two and you have a book! CocoaBooklet also lets you create a minibooklet, which is especially useful for printers that cannot print on both sides.
It is a useful tool to reduce the number of pages that has to be printed, which lets you save a lot of paper.

GEORGIO8 Was very happy with this on Leopard, but it crashes on open for me in Snow Leopard 10.6.2/MacBookPro.

MIKEPS408 This looks easy, but I have a problem. 80 page doc. But after I drop the pdf into CB, the pages are not in the right order and there's an extra blank page at the beginning (should be one). I printed a copy to make sure I was seeing this right and it's definitely out of order. Sound familier to anyone?

JIIOTA I had the same problem as another user- cocoabooklet for some reason inserts a blank page at the beginning and another on the second page, which throws everything out of order. This app is SO close to being perfect and wonderful. What's frustrating me is I can't understand the reasoning behind the blank pages. My first page is the front cover of the booklet, and my last page is the back cover of the booklet. But the two blank pages are just enough to throw the whole thing out of whack.

ANONYMOUS I am so excited right now! I have been making booklets (60-70 pages ea.) for years, the old fashioned way (yes, cutting with scissors and taping) b/c I could not figure out how to arrange the pages correctly on the computer. Your program has saved me HOURS of work and many dollars in Tylenol. Thank you! Thank you! It was so easy to use. I'm not sure it could be any easier. Have I said thank you yet?! Thank you!!!

RUBAIYAT It is simple to work out your own imposition. Just get a piece of paper and fold it into half, then half again, then half again. (assuming it is in 16 page signatures). Starting at the front number the bottom outside corner. Now unfold it and you have a guide to layout. Just place and turn the pages of the document where you need them.

MAAT I had exactly the same problem printing to an HP 4550 laserprinter. It would spit out page after blank page and I couldn't stop it. I had to turn the printer off before it would stop. I then tried creating the booklet with separate files for even & odd pages. Everything works fine. No extra pages, no blank pages. Go to; Preferences>Options>Split the booklet into odd/even pages. I didn't change any defaults in the print dialogue, I did check the "collate" box. This program does, in fact, rule. I can't get InDesign to create a booklet as simply. I use CocoaBooklet for instruction manuals. Send this developer some money!

ANONYMOUS This program rules. The only problem I have is getting my printer to not skip pages on the second pass of printing. This happens on both of my printers, and it usually means I have to start over. It helps if you're not printing in draft mode, but that's no guarantee. Anyway, that's not this programs fault.

BARRY Really great utility. It only took me about 45 minutes to learn how to impose my 20-pg booklet and print a perfect copy on my color laserjet. US users: make sure to set the correct page size in CocoaBooklet prefs. For my 5in x 5in booklet I set it to 10in x 5in (spread size.) Then I printed the resulting PDF from Acrobat with crops, trimmed and backed them up. (Didn't try duplex printing from my laserjet but it might have worked ok too.)
