ONE78MAN  Gimp! It's not Photoshop but still you can learn how to use it and realize special works.

And if you are not a "pro" then Gimp is the perfect choice! :D

BIGDAVE56  I really like the GIMP, and applaud the developer for supporting us PPC dinosaurs. However, 2.6.5 continues a bug that was introduced in 2.6.4- some menu items and hover balloons inexplicably appear in Spanish. I have enough Spanish savvy to guess what's what for the most part, but this is really kind of annoying.

PIZZACAKE  I can confirm Gimp now has Wacom Tablet support with latest X11!

In Gimp go to edit>preferences>input devices>configure extended input devices

Select device pen, set mode to screen and save.

Your Wacom tablet should be working!

PIZZACAKE  Gimp 2.6.4 for Mac OS X Leopard / Intel

To install Gimp simply drop it to your Application folder.

X11 2.3.2 or higher recommended

To use this build of Gimp 2.6.4, it is recommend that you use X11 version 2.3.2 or higher. This version has many advantages over the previous ones. Most of all it will

* support graphic tablets

* support better font sizes / display resolution (96 dpi)

Please download X11 from

http://xquartz.macosforge.org/trac/wiki

ANITARAJ  Unable to open in 10.5.6. Sad to see this is not tested. Like the previous commenter, would be nice if it run on it's own with default Mac menus.

NEONBLUE2  Do you have the latest XQuartz installed? Because it does work on 10.5.x if you fulfil the system requirements (which aren't actually on this page).

NEONBLUE2  Thank you for bringing back the GTK theme. Trying to make an X11 app look integrated just looks and feels weird.

DAYCARE  doesn't run under a standard 10.5.6 installation. Maybe its' a problem with the current version of Apple's X-Windows version - but I don't care. If it won't run under my standard installation, I will not use it (got some other X11-app's here that work fine)

Would be so cool if there would be a version of gimp that just behaves like a 'normal' OSX application :-(

UMAROMC  Check out the website for more info... apparently it requires a version of X11 that's NEWER than Apple's supplied X11.

DAYCARE  Yes, the ReadMe mentions this too - but since I NEED X11 for some communication tools for my work, I just don't like to touch that installation :-(

NEONBLUE2  XQuartz is a lot better than the broken mess that shipped with Leopard. Try it out and if you don't like it then just reapply the latest Mac OS X update. Technically Apple have been updating X11 allow with the system, it's just that they don't keep up with every release.

Now if you want a native Gimp, have you checked the link under "Related Links"?

BIGDAVE56  Like GIMP a lot. Maybe it is not as full-on powerful as Photoshop, but then, most users probably don't even use most of the power Elements has. On my 1.2 GHz G4 w/1.2 GB of RAM it runs as fast as Pshop CS2 or Pixelmator. The nomenclature is a little different than Adobe but if you are familiar with other image editors you'll figure it out. Download the Applescript 'Turn On X11 focus follows mouse' for enhanced usability. There is also one called (IIRC) 'X11 96dpi' which makes the menu fonts look the same size as OSX apps.

Only big item on my feature want list is 16-bit color depth support. Not aware of any editors that do that that don't cost $600.

I also applaud lisanet.de for not pulling support for us PPC hangers-on. This version is the basis of this review. Nicely done and good stability too.
