EYELESS  Since I am here and seeing all the positive reviews, I can only add that I have tried it out a couple of times since it was released and have never managed to configure it to work with anything and we work with these things daily ... but if you are lucky it might work with your appliances. VPN Tracker has always worked even if their standard profiles often does not work. /Jerry

RIDOGI  This connects so much faster than VPN Tracker, is very unobtrusive (lives in the menu bar, no app needed to make connections), and it's free. It also can export profiles and supports multiple connections, which requires the Pro version of VPN Tracker.

The drawbacks are the app itself crashes when editing profiles and connections, the connections and profile windows are not resizable, and new connections are added to the current profile by default (which is annoying).

The other downside is that exporting profiles no longer works on my computer (it did for a while, but now gives an error that I must choose a password, even though I did.)

This app shows potential. I use it over VPN Tracker, and if the stability issues were worked out it would be great.

thank you very much for your review. The export problem has been identified and fixed (see http://www.lobotomo.com/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.pl?num=1195575910 , release to come).

I'd very interested to learn more about the crashes you describe, and to fix them, of course. Could you please get in touch with me at lobotomo@lobotomo.com?

Thank you very much,

Christoph

N. SILVA  The 3.0 beta is really great! My company paid $199 for a VPN Tracker Pro license and I'm ditching it for this.

My favorite feature is the menubar item for controlling the VPN connection. You can quit the IPSecuritas application (freeing up space on your Dock) and still control the VPN.

This application is for connecting to IPSec VPNs. If your company uses PPTP or L2TP-over-IPSec this isn't for you.

Pros:

* Loads and connects faster than VPN Tracker Pro

* Native Intel application (VPN Tracker emphasizes that they support the Intel platform, but it is still a PowerPC application)

* Menubar item to control VPN status

* Dashboard widget to control VPN status

* Greatly improved configuration interface since the last version

* Can see multiple remote subnets (new since the last version)

Cons:

* There wasn't a pre-defined profile for my company's VPN. I had to play with the options to find the combination that works.

* There's no help available in the beta.

SIG  Seems cool, but I have no idea whether it's working. It doesn't mask my IP like VPN behind a server does (such as Google Secure Access, which appears to no longer be functioning well on my machine).

If it's indeed tunelling, how come anyone can still see my regular IP? Am I just not figuring out how to use it correctly? I followed the typical example. Would like to learn more. Thanks.

SILVERDR  That's it. A nice GUI for the IPsec features. Very, very good. The only improvement I can think of is that there could be some presets for the most common settings / connection types.
