DESCRIPTION
DesktopSweeper is a freeware APE Module (the equivalent of Unsanity's Haxies) that provides ways to control whether or not Desktop icons are displayed. This can be done with a configurable hotkey, or automatically, when the Finder comes to the front and/or leaves it.

DesktopSweeper doesn't work by covering the Desktop so your desktop background is not affected at all, even if you use an application that displays animated (or screensaver'ed) backgrounds. .

WHAT'S NEW
Version 1.3:
  • Universal Binary (runs on both PPC and Intel based Macs).
  • Added ways to enable separately Display and Hide automatically.
  • Added an option to prevent the Finder to come to the front when clicking on the Desktop while icons are hidden.
  • Reworded most tooltips in the prefs pane.
  • Fixed a bug where the hidden state could get reversed for icons that were partially offscreen.

    REAL_MACINFO  I hope we will see a new version of APE working on Leopard soon, so we can get DesktopSweeper running there too!

    I think, still no other "hide-icons-on-desktop" comes close to it, neither in simplicity nor in speed.

    DANA SUTTON  Nifty. Only problem: when it installed APE 2.0, it failed to delete APE 1.5, I had to do that manually (hiss boo)

    RUCK  I really love this app enhancer, great work. I get super messy on my desktop and it's nice to just have my wallpaper showing through. One feature I'd like to request is.. the seperation of Display and Hide in Automatic Mode, so they can be selected individually. Then I would be able to display my icons only with my hotkey, but always have it then hide my icons when I leave the finder.

    KENNY  Great! I really HATE a cluttered desktop, now I can have files that I need quickly on my desktop but hide them with a key command! Thanks!
