DESCRIPTION
DVDpedia is a powerful movie cataloging application that retrieves all information about your DVDs and videos from the internet.

It lets you search all the Amazon sites (US, UK, Canada, France, Germany and Japan) plus IMDB and several other international sites for information about your movies, either by entering keywords or using an iSight or a scanner. You can create smart collections and start a wish list and a borrowed list so you never loose a DVD again. View your entries as a standard list, browse only the covers or use the web view for a personalized look of DVDpedia. Share your collection with friends, using the customizable HTML export templates.

MACMELO  I own licenses to both DVDpedia and Bookpedia but have never been able to really use the softwares, because the Info Views are so bad. Delicious Library on the other hand is beautiful to look at (it has a truly designed interface) but it doesn't offer all the functionality of the 'pedias.

Oh... How I wish the "Info View" in all these 'pedia apps was not ugly as hell... And yes I tested them all, including every single extra listed in the site... There's not a single one that looks even slightly "designed"... they're just "put together".

How hard is it to hire some real and talented designers to create amazing and professional looking templates to make the apps "look" as good as I know they "are"? What good is it to rely on user contributed templates if (apparently) only amateur and/or bad designers seem to give it a try?

This is just a comment... I will not post it as a review (with stars) because I really believe these apps ARE good and I really hope they LOOK good in a near future... But still, the lack of proportion, alignment and visual hierarchy to the information, in all these view templates is incredibly low quality...

I know taste is a matter of personal opinion, but I truly don't believe ANY good designer can take a look at those templates and not be disgusted.

KBEAT  I've got a huge collection of DVDs and Video Games, and have long wanted a first class library management tool. I've tired FileMaker, web based utilities, Delicious Library, and a few lesser known shareware programs, and I can say this is hands down the best of the bunch. It's easy to use, feature rich, very snappy even with large collections, and takes full advantage of Leopard's features. Heck, with the cover flow feature in the finder, I rarely have to open it other than to add new titles. It even has a nice iPhone companion app.

I wish they offered an "all in one" version of the pedia apps, but that's really the only complaint I have, and that's not really a complaint. If you're looking to manage your collection of DVDs, Games, Books, or CDs on a Mac, the Pedia apps are the best tools for the job.

DIGITAL FURY  Almost perfect. It's fast, stable and finds almost all the weird books and movies I have.

However, even though I only used DVDpedia and Bookpedia, you should really merge all these applications.

AETNARIA  Pedias are separate to favor people that want 'just that', I think. If you're looking for an all-in-one, Booxter might be closer to your aim.

XPLICIT  What about a single "pedia" for all my media stuff? One application for every different kind is somehow annoying.

Come on, four apps which do nearly the same, that's a laugh.

BRUJI  The main reason the programs are separate is because we want them to be good at what they do - if you have large collections then putting them all together into one application will mean a slower program and less specialized features.

It also allows us to keep the price low for users who are only interested in one application. (And for those interested in more we offer bundle discounts.)

Having said that though, the Pedia programs do have some integration between them. You can link a Bookpedia book to a DVDpedia movie, for example. Sure, you're using two programs but clicking on the link will take you directly to the other program with the related entry highlighted.

Alternatively, there's also the Amazonpedia widget or Spotlight which allow you to search all your Pedia libraries at once (as well as Amazon with the widget) so you don't have to have all the programs running just to check for an entry.

TOURNESOL  No thanks. I like the apps being separate. I only want to catalog my DVD's and not anything else. What the author could do was to make some toolbar buttons for each app that will appear automatically when a user own more than one type of pedia from Brunji. That way you could switch easily between the apps.

MOTORCITYMAC  This app is so Mac!

Easy, fast, powerful, intuitive, and it only gets better with each update. This is quality software far beyond simple shareware. The dedication to details shows, and it sure is appreciated.

These are pure six-color Apple codeheads. Love you Bruji! -fellow MacGeek.

UBUNTUKING  Very good cataloging program. I actually prefer this one to delicious library for a couple of reasons: it starts faster and also the program is responsive, the library cache for the images is pretty small compared to that used by delicious library. While the eye candy is definitely not up to par compared to delicious, the program's functionality is stellar.

VANQUISHED  A really nice program - even though it's not as attractive to look at as Delicious Library, it's fantastic for use in a home-cinema setup where you want to store all your movies on your hard drive and use this app to start them.

Only complaint would be that the information pane would work better if it was positioned to the right of the screen, and the iSight import feature doesn't work very well. Other than this, a fantastic app!
