CLIX (Command Line Interface for OS X) is a Cocoa application that harnesses the power of Unix. It's perfect for the pros and can be helpful for the noobs too.
The CLIX package includes a starter database file with over 1,100 system commands for investigating your system status, for cleaning out junk files, for getting at esoteric secret settings in your most used applications - and more.
And most importantly, CLIX is infinitely extensible: you can add to it at any time, in any way you please - add new commands, new command categories, new command database files, and so on.
And unlike other systems, CLIX is 100% 'WYSISYG' (what you see is what you get): it's exactly the command lines you would use at a terminal if you were so inclined. So sometime you might remember a command or two and try it on your own.
CLIX comes with commands for viewing all your system logs, for cleaning out browser caches, for pruning and fixing 'plist' preference files, for spelunking in root's back yard, for ridding your system of all kinds of junk, for seeing what your virtual memory is up to, what your Netinfo database manager is up to, and on and on.
CLIX also has its own newsletter and command exchange for in-depth discussion of Unix and the CLIX commands.
Maintain your Mac safely and securely.
Version 1.8.1d: The free tree is doing OK - and now there's file sharing built in.

[PURE_CY] 1 of 3 utilities I can’t life without: Clix, LaunchBar and SuperDuper!. I use Clix since 2004 (v. 1.0) and NEVER had a problem with it. And check out Xfile - Awesome! @ RONL: Ha! I think Joel Barriere's OnyX is just made for u! With just one click u can render your system unbootable. ;-) (Version 1.8.1)

RONL It seems many other people have had major run-ins with this developer also. Read this page regarding attacks and copyright infringement: http://www.digg.com/apple/What_is_Rixstep_doing_to_Stepwise I certainly would not trust typing in your admin password into an app this developer had created. Make sure you read the above page (URL) before even thinking about using this app. There may be a reason that it's free and that he wants you to use it. (Version 1.8.1)

MACGRUDER OK. The guy is perhaps difficult, but you can trust this app. (Version 1.8.1)

RONL Unbelievably rude tech support. Nice app as long as you don't go on their forum asking for help. Incredibly rude and hostile. I very humbly asked for a little help and Rick acted like I had wasted his time simply because I had forgotten to take note of all of the text that had appeared in the Terminal window. Then he immediately banned me from the forum! (i.e. I could no longer post so that he could continue to rant!... unbelievable! (Version 1.8.1)

CASTLE Unnecessarily complicated. Barely any less complicated than the command line itself. Seems to occupy some void between command line and "easier" GUI. (Version 1.7.2f)

MACGRUDER You're missing the point. Clix enables you to save all those command-line things you can't remember. It could do with a search function though! (Version 1.8.1)

NICECAMAN As the song so rightly puts it: Don't judge a book by it's cover. Most tools are just that and not designed for beauty of the eye. Alas, most does exactly what we wont to use them to. A hammer does not have the looks of Carmen Dias, Shakira or Richard Gere. That's fine, since laymen and professionals alike would look for highest standard and performance and rather the brilliance and ability of Maya Deangelo and Stephen Hawking. I , my self, has often been complemented for my looks, but you know, I don' give a rat's arse about it! If my work and performances as an artist does not please my fellow man, then I have failed gravely and should look for another use of my abilities as a tool. Let's all use this space to give reviews and relevant comments. That is what I find really helpful when I look for an useful app, to help me in my line of work. As it says in The Hidden Words of Bahá'u'lláh: In the garden of thy heart plant naught but the rose of love. Works for me! (Version 1.7.2e)

HEKUTORU How dare you criticize this program for letting you understand command lines? Whether you like Aqua or any other GUI is not relevant for a review. It's definitely wrong giving one star to a free utility that helps you learn to dig under the nice looks of Aqua and into the depths of Darwin. CLIX is a very useful database, rate it for what it does. (Version 1.7.1a)

ANONYMOUS This application "does what it says on the tin". Very complete default catalogue of commands, and the ability to store custom commands is very handy even if you comfortable with a shell. A search function would be welcome. (Version 1.7.1a)

WAYNE Well, CLIX is OK, though the developer is a lunatic and a compulsive liar and has slandered Barebones, Blacktree, Panic and just about every OS X developer on the block. I know for a fact that one developer I'm acquainted with could not get him to remove false assertions from his website. But as the poor mad sod has been jailed by the Greek government for spamming, maybe people who've used and enjoyed his software might try lending a hand getting him out. http://techdirt.com/articles/20051027/0025209_F.shtml (Version 1.7.1)

ANONYMOUS Use Cocktail? You have to be joking. That thing is sh*t. I've seen better things stuck to the pavement. It is nothing but Applescript wrappers to a couple of Unix commands. It's an intentional deceit - a con on the public. Moreover, it sends your password in the clear. It's written for the clueless by the clueless. Rixstep could be fairly taken to task for their inexplicable vendetta against Panic's Transmit, for their recent claim that Mailsmith "isn't even Carbon" (you can run it in Classic mode but that is not the only way). Oh, and their claim that OS X can't shred is wrong - open Disk Utility and you'll find an option to do just that. But their crusade against what the call "The Wizards of OS X" is fully justified, and I for one welcome it. (Version 1.7d)

ANONYMOUS The SPX shredder was alone when the statement OS X didn't have shredding was made. Every article I've ever seen there is dated. You can't expect them to go back and edit their archives? The shredder in DU is cool. (Version 1.7d)
