WHAT'S NEW
Version 5.3.3:
SUMMARY. This version is the 'final' version of the 5.3.2 beta which was released two days ago. Taken together, these two releases provide support for Opera version 10 and also fix a few bugs.
- Fixed a bug in the Migrate Bilaterally action which caused AppleScript to display a dialog if either end of the migration was Firefox.
- Fixed an omission in the 5.3.2 beta: Now automatically supports Opera 10 for those Opera 10 users who never used Opera 9.
Version 5.3.2:
- Added an option for switching from Opera 9 to Opera 10. (After Opera 10 has been run once, a dialog will appear the next time you launch Bookdog.)
- Clicking "Add New..." in the Main Window now creates a new item in the expected location, under the current selection, instead of in an unexpected location.
- Fixed a bug which sometimes allowed Bookwatchdog to sort bookmarks while Bookdog was running, causing confusion to the user.
Mac OS 10.3 users should not install either of these updates. More info.
REQUIREMENTS
- Mac OS X 10.4 or later
- To manage Firefox bookmarks, must be using Firefox 1.5 or later. Firefox 3 is recommended.
- To manage OmniWeb bookmarks, must be using OmniWeb 5.0 or later

TOM46 Long ago, this used to be a great little app, simple to use and very functional. Now the gui is hopelessly confusing and for all practical purposes impossible to use. (Version 5.3.3)

WYMAN13 Downloaded the Demo from MacUpdate and from the developer's site just now [6:35pm EST on 6/12/09] and both were Bookdog 5.3.1 from April 12, 2009 not Bookdog 5.3.2b listed here. Solution? (Version 5.3.2b)

SJK It's happened before with this app. My solution? Wait until the latest version eventually appears on the developer's site, usually within a day or two. (Version 5.3.2b)

LARRYMCJ I'm sure this app's icon has special meaning to the developer...but add me to the list of folks who don't like it. I honestly could not live with such an unprofessional icon in my dock. For developers whose icons have such special meaning...please consider offering an optional icon. (Version 5.2)

ORION MK. V Silly icon? Sure. But it's a dog on some books... works for me. (Version 5.2)

XENOPHILE Totally agree. I love dogs, but that photorealistic icon of a dog on a stack of books is just plain ugly. I'm sure that in person, the dog on which the icon is based is utterly adorable, but when scrunched into my crowded dock, I can barely even recognize it as a dog. On the other hand, looking at Bookdog's interface reminds me that the icon is perhaps the most beautiful part of Bookdog... (Version 5.3.2b)

LOUNGE DELUXE I've been using BookDog for a few years now, and It proved helpful from day one. The developer provides for regular updates and he's very responsive when it comes to email support. Recommended! But I'd appreciate an GUI upgrade though, it looks horrible to me. (Version 5.1.44)

SJK Parts of the GUI still look unattractive to me in this BookMacster preview movie: http://sheepsystems.com/engineering/Preview0121.mov For example, those "customizing [1]", "Firefox [1]", etc. labels (whatever they're called) in the dark gray background of the Content tab in a Bookshelf at about 00:01:35 really beg to be redesigned. F451 I have been using Bookdog since it was first released. Without a doubt one of the best little apps to have if you browse the web. Discreet, fast updates, well worth the money. I do not mind the icon as this application has so much substance, and I like the developer. (Version 5.1.15)

LORIN RIVERS This is PRECISELY what I have been looking for. I've just scratched the surface, but it's fast and flawless so far. I've got my bookmarks synced between Safari, FF2 & 3 and Camino. It's also checking my bookmarks in the background as I type this. Something I've needed to do for a long time. I hate the icon, though. (Version 5.1.12)

RICHARD RATZAN bookdog is great!!!!!!! indispensable. it does so much more than alphabetize/sort (at levels one can control) browser bookmarks (it's pitiful that safari doesn't include such a basic feature when it comes to bookmakrs). i do not use most of its features, frankly, but like the fact they are there and at its reasonable price, it's worth it for just the sorting/validation/duplication identification features. developer was very responsive to an unusual request of mine (how to sort by date of creation/modification) with a workaround and upgrades - free - are almost weekly and painlessly installed and BBD relaunched. rich ratzan (Version 5.1.12)

ANON BUD Really nice app. Syncs my three browser bookmarks flawlessly and the developer is extremely quick to respond to problems. I had a major glitch with BD unable to read my bookmarks in Firefox 3 beta (Minefield) and the developer spent several days working to find and correct the problem–which, it seems, was unique to me. Any software developer with this kind of response to user problems is NUMBER ONE in my book! (Version 5.1.8)

SWGS1 This software looks crazy hideous. Please do everybody a favor and go check out Bookit which has a nice mac interface and is more affordable than Bookdog anyway. (Version 5.1.3)

SJK Maybe Bookit can be more affordable than Bookdog because it does less? Couldn't agree more about Bookdog's UI, though. That can happen when a hardware engineer designs software. :) (Version 5.1.4)
| Feb 7 2008 |
SWGS1 sure, it may do more, but perhaps it could be said that anyone who is using a bookmark sync app for more than what Bookit does, and is compelled to look at software like this instead, should perhaps re-evaluate their strategy for bookmarks. As for excusing the user interface of this app because the developer is a Hardware Engineer, seems to me that even someone who isn't confident in designing UIs, could do better than BookDog if they just stuck with Apple's development tools. I'd find it hard to believe that BookDog's UI was designed in ye ole' Interface Builder. Seems to me hardware engineers might prefer to develop CLI based apps, or hiring a UI designer (consultant), or perhaps finding a gig engineering hardware instead. (Version 5.1.4)
