JIMW  This is sort of a simplified version of the Apple Keychain with easier access and probably less security. Its advantage is that it is all in the menu. However it lacks support from Apple and is not as automatic and sophisticated as Keychain. i suspect it is not as secure or as cryptic to use as Keychain either. However with Keychain, since it is built into the OS, you are assured compatibility with future OS releases. It also has a built in repair tool. Nevertheless, Keychain has historically had its own share of problems.

Tip: Keychain does have a feature that you can turn on to give it Menu access. It is under the "View" menu of Keychain. It also gives access to Filevault. Keychain is located in your Utilities folder of jaguar or Panther.

For those that don't like Keychain, or can't figure it out, LoginWallet might be an alternative.

However I would not suggest using either on as a general database to store all your passwords for credit cards, financial records, software serial numbers, and important passwords, pins, etc. for personal and family records. For this a database in Filemaker or Pastor might be a better choice.

Programs like LoginWallet are more designed for on-line access of web sites or software that requires passwords or forms.   (Version 0.1.4b)
