VALENTINIAN An installer? Really? Why does a Bittorrent client require an installer? It's a pretty cut-and-dry application that should stand alone in a drag-and-drop .app file. Do you intend to install random packages into hidden locations on my system? Oh right, it's for the toolbar and other strange third-party things, which I had to explicitly opt-out of. And of course, it's not a standard Apple installer package, so I can't even figure out what exactly you did to my system, even though I unchecked all the boxes I could to just get the application. What happened to you, Azureus / Vuze? You used to be cool. (Version 4.0.0.2)

It installs an invisible folder (a dot before the name) called .install4j at the root of the folder where the program sits. (for instance, the Applications folder if you chose it) The folder contains a bunch of files like a log and .dll program files, and even a .exe Windows file. Don't know what is this all for. Invisible folder manually removed... (Version 4.0.0.2)

MSWFUJOWDFFYC After installing this VUZE-Thing without looking at the license/dialogs/whatsoever, my iMac w/Tiger couldn't sleep anymore! Before VUZE, the iMac was sleeping very well :( so I took a look at the comments here and removed this UNUSUAL invisible folder .install4j (was in the Application Folder). After a restart: my iMac sleep's again. It's confusing because I didn't found any running process or startup items, but I'm sure this annoying folder has something to do with it. Strange. SHOTGUNWEDDINGS It would be super cool if the 2 halves of Vuze / Azureus were split into each their own program to reduce the bloat. With that said, when using this with the "classic" interface, it is bearable. But getting past the GUI and bloat, NOTHING and I mean NOTHING touches the speed and power of this for downloads. Transmission lacks the power to get around a "Bad ISP" and is great for beginners, but useless to me. uTorrent lacks anything to make it even worth a laugh. xTorrent is supported be a greedy pompous jerk that only wants to steal your money just like the stolen code he's charging money for. And it was banned on 90% of the sites I visit. LimeWire Pro is great for the Gnutella network, but lacks far too much for torrents The rest of the clients are dead or dying or useless. TIAGO Amen... (Version 4.1.0.2)

EMET1 May I second the Amen? An excellent breakdown of the basic differences between torrent apps. Also, Azureus makes excellent use of plugins for bad ISPs (safepeer) and limit seeding per torrent (autopilot). (Version 4.2)

FATAL_SE7EN I love Vuze but over the past few years the developer has deemed it necessary to overclock the interface, while all we torrenters need is configurable settings and ability to download via bittorrent, Also I cant stand Java, it might just be me but Java seems far too cumberson to be used daily/ (Version 4.1.0.2)

Azureus used to be good, if rather unintuitive. It did everything I wanted and it was very configurable. It was a bit buggy and crashed regularly but I still liked it. Now Vuze has come along, the quirky but still cool app I used to know has eaten too many pies. Vuze is confusing, bloated and slow. All I want my bittorrent client to do is download torrents. I don't want built in search engines or media libraries or . I like a nice well-rounded application that sticks out in the right places, but Vuze has overdone it. Vuze, I don't know how to say this, but I am leaving you for someone a little more svelte (ie transmission). We had fun but I'm afraid it's over. (Version 4.0.0.2)

STROB I used to like Azureus, but Vuze 4 is without doubt totally useless on my G5 10.4.11. It is totally unresponsive, in fact, I can't get it to do anything at all. What on Earth happened to such a promising app? (Version 4.0.0.2)

UETLI I never had to stop this software. It always stops by itself, by crashing. (Version 4.0.0.2)

CALL ME YO DADDY I know we're all entitled to our opinion and it's very subject but for the life of me I can' figure out why some here consider Vuze 4 to be "bloated and ugly"? Vuze 4's redesign is anything but that. There aren't big and bulky round buttons all over the place (Firefox) but rather Vuze has a very clean and intuitive layout. It's a gorgeous Mac app. This version has made me a real fan. Vuze is a lot of fun and downloads torrents in a snap. As far as bloated is considered, it is quite snappy and responsive on my Mac and considering all that it is designed to do of course it is a larger bit torrent app than Limewire, uTorrent, Transmission or anything else out there for the Mac. Vuze is simple much more than just a plain and boring bit torrent app. I can't tell you how much I enjoy downloading a movie then firing it up in Vuze to watch it. That's a real nifty feature. Anyway Vuze 4 is hands down the best bit torrent app I have ever used with a very attractive and clean UI. (Version 4.2.0.8a)

STEVEN GOODHEART Couldn't agree more! I think the Vuze interface is great and very easy to use. Of course, compared to a minimalist interface like Transmission's, I suppose one could call it "bloated," but that seems unfair. The aspirations and uses of Vuze go *way* beyond that of the simple but powerful Transmission. I love them both, and use them for different reasons. Vuze gets 5 stars as far as I'm concerned. BEIGE Take your garbage toolbar and get it off my system. I just had a Maya render fail with a CTLoader error - guess which program installed this? Vuze, with it's toolbar tie-in garbage. If I wanted the cruft of Windows, I'd get Windows. (Version 4.2.0.8)

KILLER KLOWN KAR If you turn off most of the junk, go back to the classic interface etc Vuze is acceptable. This app continues with the trend of dumbing down apps for the mass market. Well whatever... µTorrent is out, is the bomb and Vuze simply screwed the pooch by bloating an otherwise decent app. (Version 4.2.0.2)

CORPSECORPS Not that i ever thought this monster was pretty or intuitive, but once i managed to get it set up, it at least did it's thing FAST and in a sort of comprehensible way, with a tab for stats and a tab for each torrent. This big redesign has only compounded the problems, glossing them over with this deceptive APPEARANCE of order. I've never been interested in the Vuze junk which is now more in-your-face than ever. The old views and stats are scattered so they're more difficult to find than after the Vuze switch-over. I HATE side bars in apps like this where i want to see lots of columns of info. It keeps forgetting column widths in some displays. The side bar won't stay out of my face! This annoying upload/download/vivaldi graph at the top got turned on and i cant get rid of it. It keeps coming back every time i run the app. Where settings have been fine through several upgrades, i'm suddenly getting all grey, yellow, and blue blobs (are those supposed to be smileys?) and i really didn't want to get that morass of horrid settings again. If there was a torrent app that was anything like as versatile i'd toss this POS. It's a big fat bloated java cow a la limewire which takes a degree in... gobbledygook to comprehend. I didn't want the advanced functions hidden in an incomprehensible maze of menus, tabs, and sidebar entries, i wanted them clarified and given a decent interface! Gaaah! Why is it every time ya want to perform some simple operation, you have to learn some huge new ugly app with a jillion stupid quirks and mountains of nit-picking details. I could swear the GUI's on all my favorite apps are turning to sludge. They have the oblivious goober interface, or the deluge of details one. Alas for the dreams of yesteryear, when the super fast computers on the horizon were promised to LESSEN the work of the user! This thing ought to have the Apple User Interface Guidelines authors retching in the john! (Version 4.0.0.2)
