JWDRISKELL  I don't know if this will help, or if it will even work, but here's a quote from the developer's Web site:

Reports suggest that you must issue the command sudo sysctl -w kern.tfp.policy=1 from the terminal if you're using The Cheat on an Intel Mac.

NIL00  Don't try what JWDRISKELL suggested. It won't help anything.

Universal binary and intel versions of The Cheat have been posted by a couple of users, but none of them work correctly. So, as of now, there aren't any universal binary or intel versions of The Cheat that work. You can run this unofficial release (1.2.3) under rosetta on an intel machine though, which will work.

MACTECHHEAD  Good idea bad implementation

I gave this tool a try, and it failed me miserably. But I won't do a negative review if the developer is keen on changes because The Cheat does have potential.

I tried iHaxGamez which puts to shame The Cheat !

With iHaxGamez you search for the number in the left, wait for the game to change that number and then pause it and use iHaxGamez lower right search box to with the new number.

So if the developer really wants to make The Cheat worth using, I'd suggest following suit with iHaxGamez and allowing a search to compare the changes, otherwise people will be blindly changing numbers at addresses in memory or crashing their games.

NIL00  You can search and narrow down results with The Cheat. Programs can be paused with The Cheat also. Check the manual in the help menu under "Searching For Variables" if you are stuck on figuring out how to narrow down results.

GAME_ON  I don't know what I'm doing wrong, but every time I go to search for a value (any variable type) in a game, it immediately tells me "Search found no results.". I've tried this on +10 different games, and none will give me anything.

What am I doing wrong?

TURTLEONMAC  It seems that as of 10.5, you can't poke around in the memory of other applications without proper authorization (I was always surprised you used to be allowed to).

Anyway, it seems you can get this version of the cheat to work by making it execute as root. To do this, open up terminal and navigate inside the application using something like

cd /Applications/Games/The\ Cheat.app/Contents/MacOS/

You'll need to use a different path if you've placed the application in a different place than I did. Then type

sudo chown root The\ Cheat

followed by your admin password, then type

sudo chmod +s The\ Cheat

This should make it work again. Note that you'll have to repeat the steps if you move the application.

GAME_ON  Thanks, man. I guess it would make sense for it to need root privileges to scan other processes memory, huh?

I think that'd be something to put in the next update to The Cheat.
