Version 2.0 is only compatible with Mac OS X 10.6.
DESCRIPTION
PathSnagger (formerly known as CopyPath) adds a Contextual Menu Item option to the Contextual Menu in the Finder. Control-click a document, application, folder, mounted volume, zip disk, anything, and easily copy the full path to that item directly to your clipboard.
SCHOSCHIE The developer of PathSnagger appears not to be too interested in fixing bugs. PathSnagger still doesn't handle paths that contain non-ASCII characters. While I very much appreciate freeware, it's a bit sad that programs like this are not maintained.
I have found a very good replacement to PathSnagger, which doesn't have the aforementioned problem. It can only copy paths in UNIX style and without quotes, but this is perfect for most everyone.
May I suggest that you add some hint to the user - either in the Preference pane itself, or in the ReadMe file - that he/she can delete the Prefrerence itself from the System Preferences, to free up some space? That us, when they're done setting the preferences. (Version 1.1b5)
Path Snagger has a problem with paths that contain special characters such as German umlauts, French accented characters etc. These are represented as escape sequences of the form \xxx. PathSnagger apparently gets confused by these and does not copy the path in that case. Since we have a LOT of paths that contain umlauts and the like, it would be so cool if this could be fixed.
Other than this, PathSnagger is extremely useful and I recommend it to everybody. (Version 1.1b5)
FLYSI Great little app - I use it every day in a mixed Mac/PC environment, and it's so useful for sending paths quickly to producers and art directors for reviewing work.
It would be even more awesome if it could convert between Unix/Windows file path formats (ie. switch between forward- and back-slashes) as appropriate. I'm sure that's do-able; I'm just not the guy for the job. (Version 1.1b5)
ANONYMOUS This is a great contextual menu, but it still has some issues:
Characters like parenthesis, available in file names, are not coded correctly in UNIX-style paths. They appear like "(" and ")", and should be escaped "\(" and "\)".
I haven't checked, but maybe some other characters should be escaped.
ANONYMOUS can you turn off the menu items? i will never want to copy HFS paths, and don't want to be able to make the mistake of doing so. (Version 1.1b3)
