MJKPHOTO  I started using TimeLog back in Version 3 on my PowerBook. After some initial frustration, I came to learn how the program worked. The developer is very patient and supportive, helping me through some rough spots as I learned the software's logic in handling time tracking. Version 4 was a bit of a shock as the redesign changed the way time was entered, thus requiring spending more time to acclimate myself to this new way of working. Time well spent in the long run.

TimeLog and GrandTotal are a good pair for my business. Billing used to be a hassle, but now it is pretty streamlined. I print my time sheets from TimeLog and easily create, edit, and print my invoices from GrandTotal.

TimeLog has its quirks. I'm often away from my computer, so I can't use the Time Tracking feature. This requires entering my time manually. I'm not fond of the way time is entered manually. Version 3 handled this better than Version 4 does, in my humble opinion. It is functional, but sometimes the way minutes are entered poses a frustration. I'm not quite sure how to explain it.

The release of the iPhone app should prove helpful in tracking time away from my office/computer. This little app is odd as well and took me some time to figure out. It looks like it will support TimeLog well, even though the iPhone app only tracks time and sends that data to the desktop, a oneway sync TO TimeLog on the Mac.

Overall, I'm pleased with Timelog and GrandTotal.

APPLEHC  This application (in conjuntion with GrandTotal from the same developer) is just great! I tried 4 different applications for time capture and billing in the last 48 hours and this one is by far the most sophisticated!

STEFANO CECERE  i bought the combo timelog + grantotal a few days ago...

i started with my custom Filemaker many years ago, then moved to Studiometry (but it was and it still is, at 6.0, not really user firendly.. and bugs like to live within it :)

then looked for all alternatives.. and chose Billings 3.0 (for time logging) and my Filemaker for invoicing (Billings invoicing is powerful but really complicated... and reports are a nightmare)... then i discovered GranTotal: IT'S HEAVEN!!!

i also started usign TimeLog, and it's far ahead its competitors...

i had some chat with the developer some days ago.. he is really interested in making these app something that OSX (and 2008 digital workers) deserve!!

the future looks brighter :)

5 stars!

MJKPHOTO  I just upgraded to TimeLog 4.3.9, having used version 3 under Tiger previously. Unfortunately, the program crashed when I attempted to enter the date of 10/31/2008. TimeLog stops responding. I finally worked around the problem by entering 7/31/2008 and then changing the 7 to a 10. Until this bug is fixed, I can't use the program. I had to go back to my PowerBook to get my billing done.

VISKWAL  I rarely post reviews, but MacUpdate is always the place I come to, to read user reviews and to decide if I try and buy a product, or when to steer clear from products.

So here's my contribution.

Today I purchased the Timelog/Grandtotal bundle after trying both for a while.

I come from Stuntsoftware's "On The Job" who is now officially promising this kind of application to come soon, for almost a year now (the anouncement went up in November 2007).

He has been telling me even before that he was thinking in that direction when I mentioned my needs for a program like this.

I consider myself a loyal customer, and thus waited for something to come.

While nothing came, my timetracking and invoicing have become a mess, I invoiced with pages, later numbers, I tried bento, and tried every billing app out there.

Stuntsoftware has many people on the edge of their seat, hoping something will "come soon" but nothing comes, not even a promised blog post.

So, out goes my loyalty, and in comes media atelier.

While I was not instantly overwhelmed by it's ease of use (I find especially Timelog a little hard to understand at times), I was very impressed by the responsivness of the developper.

I contacted him with several questions and I also found a bug in a beta release.

He answered promptly and the bug I found was resolved within minutes.

It shows that the developper cares about his product.

I did not hesitate and instantly bought a license, and I wouldn't have hesitated even if it was twice the price (59 euros for the bundle really is a bargain !)

I'm still learning both programs, but the more I digg into them, the more I'm starting to really like them.

I now regret I didn't make this decision earlier.

I'll also post this review with GrandTotal, since the two actually belong together.

SHOCKERSPAZ  I have tried all a whole bunch of the time tracking apps out there and I have to say that this is the ticket. I chose Timelog because of the iCal integration and when used with GrandTotal its a complete system. Together they have taken my billing period, historically taking me upwards of 2 hours, and transformed it into 3 minutes flat! Thanks Media Atelier!

LEWISH  For pure time tracking, TimeLog is second to none. That's all there is to say about that.

Unfortunately, I need more than just time tracking, as I'm sure many professionals do. A simple integrated invoicing solution will get me to switch.

Billings doesn't do any one thing the way I want it to, but it does do everything and it does it acceptably well. As much as I want it to, TimeLog just doesn't seem designed for use in a business, and I can't really figure out what other purpose it might have.

**...

RCN  I just used TimeLog 3 for two days of work. It just crashed and, upon reopening, none of my timed work remained. I just lost two days of documentation of my work and will have to guess at my time spent.

There is no 'Save' feature so data should have been saved automatically.

I might try TimeLog 4 when I upgrade to Leopard, but won't touch TimeLog 3 again and am looking elsewhere.

PHANBOI  The TimeLog 4 betas are a promising upgrade to the excellent TimeLog 3.

This is a tool that focuses on doing useful work for you with little bloat.

What it does well:

- Automatic timer logs your work in iCal by client, project and category.

- Automatically applies billing rates that can vary by category or by client.

- Supports surcharge rates for special work.

- Create and complete ToDos from any application, smoothing your workflow.

- Reports quickly time and billing amount by client and project

TimeLog 4 required a major rework to adapt to the changes and Leopard and this shows in the differences in the application.

- New look, more colourful dialogs

- New Timeline view with handy editing features

- Enhanced export formats (xml and csv)

- Network integration through CalDAV and HTTP POST of XML data.

- Smart lists allow customizing the view for your needs.

- Print reporting moved into the print dialog.

The developer is very responsive and focused on constructively responding to client feedback.

I'm looking forward to the final release.

MOOFMOM  I posted a review to this at http://moofmom.blogspot.com - The general summary is that it could be very useful if I had the -time- to figure it out. I love the interface and I think it will be great to use once I do.
